Film & Enneagram: The Dance of Reality

Produced and directed by Alejandro Jodorowsky, this film is his first in 23 years. The legendary filmmaker was born in 1929 in Tocopilla, a coastal town on the edge of the Chilean desert where the film was shot. It was there that Jodorowsky underwent an unhappy and alienated childhood as part of an uprooted family. Blending his personal history with metaphor, mythology and poetry, The Dance of Reality reflects Alejandro Jodorowsky's philosophy that reality is not objective but rather a "dance" created by our own imaginations.

The film begins at 5pm and is 2hr 10min

Afterwards, we'll meet to discuss the film and the Enneagram over dinner at a nearby restaurant: Au Coquelet at 2000 University Ave Berkeley, CA 94704. This is within easy walking distance from the theater.

I'll reschedule for the following Sunday if we don't have more than a couple "yes" RSVP's by this Saturday night. I'll keep you updated!

Note about experience level: We will use the Enneagram numbers to identify the personality types. If you are new to the system, we strongly advise you to familiarize yourself with the various types and their numbers beforehand in order to better follow the conversation. Introductory information is available on the internet including the Enneagram Institute's "How to Begin with the Enneagram".

Fascinating movie, one that will stay with me for a while. Quite intense, and a warning to the sensitive (and I'm guessing that would be most, if not all, group members): graphic violence. Still, as squeamish as I am, would not have missed it. Lots of interesting discussion afterward...i could keep talking about the movie, too. Very rich, lots of layers. Thank you, Kelly, for hosting.

One of my favorite parts that captures the theme of the movie: "In that world in which I was a stranger, all things were connected in a web of suffering and pleasure." Thanks Susan and Anne for the discussion. We came to the conclusion that the father was an 8 who integrated at 2 later in the movie, and that the boy was probably a 4.

Hey, Sara! Sometimes people have come just for the Enneagram discussion part, if they've already seen the movie on another occasion, so of course you're still welcome to come for that if you like. Earl said he might be coming for some of the discussion, too.

Hi, Kelly! I'd love to see this film with you, but I already committed to seeing this film with another friend of mine. I will miss being part of the discussion with you. I hope you had a fun holiday weekend!
