The value of FREE PR is immense... not only do you have the possibility to get exposed to a big audience, but people believe the media more than they believe your traditional marketing campaigns.

So I'm excited to announce that we are going to have one of UK's top experts on getting free PR: Rachel Taplin, to share some of her secrets.

Rachael will share with you how she appeared on over 70 radio stations in one day and was featured in one the UK’s largest daily newspapers from JUST ONE press release.

In her talk she will cover everything you need to know on how to become a media expert and secure thousands of pounds worth of publicity for next to nothing.

THESE ARE A FEW THINGS YOU WILL DISCOVER

1. How to become a Business Celebrity.

2. How you can get the media to come to you – EVERY TIME!

3. How you can find unique publicity angels that will help you secure media coverage RIGHT NOW!

4. Why the media want to connect with YOU and how they are interested in YOUR ongoing case studies and stories.

5.  What makes a good story for the media and why they will choose
YOUR STORY!

6.  What NEVER to do when approaching the media!

7.  Understanding media deadlines and how they react locally to national news topics where you can BE THE EXPERT!

and much more.

We have found a fantastic new venue for this .. the first time where we have a proper conference room where we also have a bar connected with.

Please note... this event will start a bit later than normal.. As usual we will start the evening with networking... This time from 6.45 and our speaker is on at 7.45 PM

A few good ideas given out, but not too much as the object obviously was to sell the software.

The presenter presented with enthusiasm and it was enjoyable to listen to, never boring.

I thought the offering at £180 per month (inc VAT) for 12 months a lot of money for a small business, quite a commitment there.

A 7 day trial where you can't send out a press release doesn't seem worthwhile, it would take time to master the system, and how can you measure its effectiveness? The answer is, of course, that you can't.

I think someone could well do this for themselves by focusing on their particular sector, and spending time rather than money.

Just one last footnote that my client appears this Wednesday on Brighton TV, and we have both been asked to come back in February. Additionally, I was contacted by BBC for her to appear on radio later this month. We are both so excited as this all started at the time of Racheal's presentation and was my first time of going through the process!

I kept a record of everything to validate what I was doing and showed it to all my clients on a webinar I hosted mid-week.

Thanks Rachael! I told my group of clients after your presentation that I would get the action takers into the media, having never done it before. Oh why are there so many action talkers and so few action takers! They all wanted "free advertising" but what do most do to warrant it? The TV/newspapers love the story, the angle, the proof and that it has been presented to them as "newsworthy".

This came this morning, "Thank you for contacting The Argus about Christine Blackledge. I will be using the story you sent to my colleague Finn Scott-Delaney in next week’s Women Actually section, which comes out on Wednesday."

The other day,"Hi David, I produce Latest TV's flagship show - 'Brighton Lights' Maybe have some space to squeeze Christine in as a guest. Please call me to discuss." I did follow up and my "pitch" has got my client a spot.

Next stop will be BBC Sussex and I have the contacts for the relevant programme.

Since attending this meetup I have started getting my clients into the newspaper and coming up on television. From the notes I took, along with some other research, I can submit a compelling story in my initial submissions and when it comes to "the pitch" over the telephone. So glad I attended this night!

Well done! I thought at the time there was sufficient information given to give someone the motivation and ability to do it themselves, and you have proved me correct!

I was comparing what Rachael said with what I already know. If she can short-cut the costs of guessing/testing your learning curve then is it a good return on investment? I am preparing at this moment my own media campaign with some of my own business/property students and found some very useful tips in the presentation. If I feel I need help I now have her details at hand. Thanks Rachael!

PS As I said to someone afterwards, listen to the message and not the messenger, ie can the information of the presenter help you. "I don't like that American-style selling approach." We all need sales in business, otherwise we need a job.

I wouldsuggest you may be in the minority judging by many comment I heardafter the event.

      1 · June 19

    • Andrew

I think for most people starting up a new enterprise that is a lot of money, and you cannot possibly know that even if you do become a media celebrity whether that will bring a good return on investment or not, at this stage. i think it very much depends on your niche, and if it's good, you can promote it yourself with a bit of effort.

I could´t come unfortunately due to a big PR-launch (EU-project) this morning, but will look up her services. Thanks for the tip. Best wishes, Sofie

A great topic which I previously knew very little about. A great speaker who clearly knows a lot about getting free publicity. Worth the trek out East! :)

And she is asking clients to pay her over £2,000 (monthly) over one year to obtain "free" publicity!

I thought there was some excellent info in there, personally 1 hour is not along time. As a public speaker Rachael done a great job and you have to expect the speaker to be able to offer a solution.

Thanks Patrick the venue was spot on, I found the ease of parking as well as food in the area reasonably priced, it was a great topic from Rachael, I picked up quite a few tip bits and would probably make use of her services later on.

Thank you Rachel for sharing your knowledge with us.

It was great to hear success stories, but the title of the meetup (how to get *free* PR) was controversial to Rachael's story who has used £1500 a month PR agency to get to her success and in the end pitches her paid PR agency.

Unfortunately, although Rachael is an enthusiastic speaker, there was no practical advice: e.g. best format to create a press release; or is it worth writing an informal short but punchy email instead; what kind of PR agencies are out there; what pitfalls to watch out for, etc.

    2 · June 18

  • Jessie H.

I thought it was very overpriced for the advice it gave.It was only suitable for certain types of businesses. The advice was very general. Some case studies would have been helpful.

    2 · June 18

    • Steven C.

Meant kindly Jessie I cannot disagree more. Rachael had an hour to get a huge topic in with loads of ideas to walk away for loads of different types of businesses and with with specifics it would be days. For an hour I felt she got loads of ideas in that we can all walk away with straight away. Also the price for the information is zippo!

      June 18

    • Sergei G.

I agree with Jessie. It was great to hear success stories, but the title of the meetup (how to get *free* PR) was controversial to Rachael's story who has used £1500 a month PR agency to get to her success and in the end pitches her paid PR agency.

Unfortunately I am unable to make to this event due to an emergency (girlfriend very unwell!) I'm not sure how this works but would it be possible to cancel my RSVP or otherwise if someone would like to get my ticket?

      June 17

  • Adam S.

    Catch you later everyone

    June 17

  • Patrick M. P.

Hey Folks Please bring your paypal receipt tonight. Also very importantly... tickets are non-transferable, and they cannot be given to anyone else. We have to have this rule as we will have people showing up and claiming they got a ticket from someone else, yet that someone else never told us or they "told us" via email 2 a clock.. and at that point ive already left for the event and will not check emails for the rest of the day.

  • Eliana

I was wondering why I have received an email saying £9 when I went to pay it went up to £12 ?

    June 14

    • Patrick M. P.

Hey Eliana. The earlier you book the tickets the cheaper you get them.. the first tickets was £6.( sometimes even less) Tomorrow price will be £15 and day after more. At the top of the event page it says price increase very soon and we say it all the time in the emails... I know everyone else are bullshitting when they say "hurry to get the early bird ticket" but we actually do what we say here.
