  • Erie Atheists and Agnostics

Usually the meetings and discussions are thought provoking and educational. A diverse group of individuals. Meets quite regularly. However, this meet-up group is largely "social" and not "activist". So if you're looking to make a political or social impact upon the region this might not be the group for you.

I knew there was pockets of intelligence outside the born again, right-wing evangelical world. I found it with Erie Atheists and Agnostics. Thanks for a wonderful night!

It's wonderful to see and feel the energy of young atheists. The median age in our Erie Free Thinkers Group is probably 60. We advertised in the Erie paper for members but very few younger people expressed an interest. I was beginning to think younger people didn't care. But of course they would would find such a group on line! Duh, what were we thinking? The meet up concept is awesome and powerful. I think there is the potential for large number of members for our new group, possibly even greater than the number of congregants in the largest church in Erie when you consider that up to 20% of the American population is not church going. There is power and legitimacy in numbers. Lets hope our group puts atheists/agnostics on the map and gives us a voice in the Erie community. It's past time for reason-based non-believers to stand up, be counted, and demand that our humanistic beliefs be accorded as much respect as the beliefs of any faith-based believer or any other American.

A group I'm very much looking forward to knowing better. Excited at the prospect of stimulating discussions of cosmic issues or whatever else we want to talk about.
