Tappan Lake State Park -Deersville Ohio

Tappan Lake is located in eastern Ohio among the Appalachian foothills. It is a fantastic area to ride and a great group destination . It is located between Cadiz and Uhrichsville Ohio. The reservoir was formed by the damming of Little Stillwater Creek as part of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy project.

Tappan Lake was originally constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1933 as part of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District to provide water conservation and flood control.

The catalyst for the creation of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District and Tappan Lake was the Flood of 1913, which destroyed the Ohio and Erie Canal and killed 361 people.

We will be adding a couple suggested routes where members from both states will have  meet-up locations & enroute points to meet .  These suggested routes will include a mix of interstate & two lanes .  Our plan is to all meet/ eat together @ the Tappan Lake & then those with the time, take a ride around the area above. Stay tuned for more details!!

Thanks Walt for posting the ride and getting it on the calendar.  I did this ride with another group (thanks go to Laurie) and liked it enough to want to share it.  Because there was a different starting location, we are adjusting the first portion of the ride.

A full route will be posted, but the last hour or so will be routes 30/9/646/250.

Lunch will be at the Tappan Lake Marina.  www.tappanlakemarina.com/restaurant.htm

Rider Experience:  Intermediate to experienced.  Highway and back roads.  This ride is several hours each way.

Thanks to friendly folks, my bike is in a garage in Kensington. The towing company called to cancel, said his truck was over heating. Next company wouldn't have been there until 5:30. Will work out retrieving/getting it to the dealer for a new tire/tube with Walt and Bill. Walt, thanks so much for hanging in there with me. It was fun visiting with you. Think I could get used to being a passenger, but just sometimes. Your bike is a beauty. And talk about smooth! So glad we had not just decent, but a beautiful day for the ride. Looking forward to seeing everyone again, soon!

The ride is a go "for now." Walt will post a definite yea or nay by 8:00am. The weather is still not looking the best, but the forecast is steadily improving (this time yesterday it was 80% chance of scattered t-storms). Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow and don't forget your rain suit.

Current forecast C.O.P. 40% north, 30% south - I think-n we can dodge most the splash & dash scattered /isolated pop corn storms/rain. I'll call Stefanie this evening and we'll post a "Go" or "No Go" decision this evening. .

Depending on which website you use, the chance of rain is anywhere from 20% - 80%, mostly late afternoon into the evening. I'm thinking we are going to get lucky and the scattered thunderstorms will scatter wherever we aren't. A final decision will be posted Friday evening.

Here is the route we will be taking. Was told the distance around the lake is 7 miles. The lake view is on 250; the rest is "country." (Dueling banjos anyone?) We can decide after lunch if we want to explore. Gas break will be after lunch. Depending on need, either close by (expensive) or approximately 20 miles (less expensive). The return will probably be back roads. Route 77 is an option for those that want to get on the highway sooner. https://goo.gl/maps/On0zZ

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
