This is the official meetup group for the epic series of developer games called Escape from /dev/null, inside starships or dungeons - the geekiest, quirkiest, most welcoming programming competition around, with the most baroque prizes.
Escape from /dev/null is a science-fiction or fantasy story that you experience by coding it. That’s about it :)
The outer game map is a graph, which is navigated on a communal web-based interface. When a team decide to take a certain path from the node they’re on to a connected node, they’re presented with a challenge.
The inner game is revealed step by step a challenge a time.
But it's also a series of events that let developers meet companies and the other way around, in a way that let the companies gauge the skills of each developer in the same way they would in a full-day technical interview but in a relaxed, fun and respectful manner.
The worst thing that might happen if you attend an event as a developer is that you might get a discrete offer of interest afterwards from some of the participating companies.
I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
