Parcel fabric and parcel editor training

Several of you have expressed interest in training to use the parcel fabric and parcel editing tools. In this post, I'll give an overview of what is available and what is coming soon with regard to training.

The big news is that there is a new instructor-led course being developed that covers many aspects of the parcel fabric and the parcel editor. This course will be two days in length and will be offered in both traditional classroom and virtual classroom formats.

If you’re not familiar with Esri instructor-led training, the traditional live classroom courses are available at selected Esri training centers. The virtual classroom, better known as instructor-led online, allows you to take the training from your office or home computer without having to travel to an Esri classroom. The class is still taught with a “live” instructor and other students that you will interact with, much like a traditional classroom setting. This course will also be available as a client-site offering as well. If you have several people in your organization that wish to receive training, it is often more cost effective to have the instructor come to your location. This client-site training can also be held with another day of coaching in which you can work directly with the instructor using your own data and talk about topics specific to your organization.

The new parcel editing course will focus on the following topics:

  • Introduction to the parcel fabric
  • Enabling the parcel fabric with the Local Government Information Model
  • Automated parcel editing workflows
  • Manual editing techniques
  • Parcel editing workflows in a multi-user editing environment

Each lesson is presented with a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles, including lecture, software demonstrations, interactive classroom activities, and software exercises. Each exercise allows you to work with the parcel fabric and editing tools to apply what you’ve learned in the lesson.

This course will be released near the time of the 10.2 release for ArcGIS for Desktop.

There are also a variety of videos available that highlight many of the new automated parcel editing workflows. These videos can be found on the video section of These videos are availble to watch now and provide a good overview of the automated workflows currently available with ArcGIS 10.1 Service Pack 1.
