Last year we planned a day outing to Leeds Castle in Kent. The trip had to be cancelled because of insufficient support, as this time last year Est had a much smaller membership base. Since then we have almost trebled in size and we have much better support this year, so the trip is viable. This is the website

Leeds Castle is a wonderful venue for an outing, and is very children-friendly (but NOT pets, as one or two of you have asked already about bringing dogs). There are two separate play areas, one for older children and the other for toddlers, plus a picnic ground with seating and tables, so we can bring our own food; there are also catering outlets for those who do not wish to do so, or we can request outside catering.
Chartered coach transportation has been organised (probably leaving from the vicinity of Victoria Station around 9 am and maybe making a stop at somewhere like Canary Wharf on the way) for the journey to and from Leeds Castle. Otherwise it is very easy to get to Leeds Castle by National Express coach service or by rail, and of course there is plenty of (free) parking space for those wishing to drive there.
This will be a whole day event, from just before 9 am to about 5.30 in the afternoon (depart/arrive back in London). The time at Leeds Castle will be about 10.30 am-3.30/4.00 pm.
Proposed schedule if using private coach transportation:
09.00 Depart Central London, with a stop en route at Canary Wharf
10.30 (est) Arrive Leeds Castle. Proceed to picnic area which is near the two children's playing areas (between nos. 19 and 20 on the map of the grounds). There is a mini-train service which goes round the castle grounds for those who do not wish to walk.

Lunch at leisure - either bring your own or we can cater by request, or you can eat at one of the restaurants. You will find the Fairfax Restaurant and Café Bar serving a varied choice of dishes in the courtyard. Light refreshments can also be obtained from the seasonal kiosks in the courtyard, near the Park Shop and at the Maze.
16.00 Depart Leeds Castle
17.30 (approx) Arrive back in London with stop en route at Canary Wharf.
Approximate cost:
Entrance to the Castle on group basis (15+ participants at the adult rate)
Per adult £11 (normal rate £15)
Children (4-15) £7.50 (normal rate £9.50)
Seniors (over 60) and Students with Student ID £10.50 (normal rate £12.50)
Cost of transportation:
By private coach, £5 per adult, £2.50 per child (under 12). The cost of the coach has been generously subsidised by one of our sponsors.
It is also possible to visit Leeds Castle by National Express, and a combined travel/admission price is available. Please let me know if you are taking this option so that I do not order an admission ticket for you on the group basis. Please note that if you are travelling by National Express, that the time for departing Leeds Castle will be at 15.00 (3 pm)
Rail travel is also available.
