Evening Ethics Discussion and Food: Is It Wrong to Make as Much Money as I Can?

Thorstein Veblen coined the phrase “Conspicuous Consumption” and thought “in a wealthy society, people begin to consume things simply in order to show others they can.” Bertrand Russell thought “leisure was the most important aspect to living what he called a free and happy life.” If making money does not impact our leisure time (think rising value of stock market investments) is it wrong? Kate, bring yourself. We present the ethical situation and then discuss it. We serve a simple meal of soup and bread beforehand and I ask that folks come and be guests without bringing anything to share. We keep a vegan house and prefer to serve what we provide. Work for you?
