“A Zionist Pacifist Looks at Israel”

"A PACIFIST ZIONIST LOOKS AT ISRAEL" will be presented by Rabbi Philip J. Bentley at the Sunday, May 19th meeting of the Ethical Society of Asheville 2:00-3:30 PM, at the Friends Meeting House, 227 Edgewood Road in North Asheville (off Merrimon Avenue near UNCA). Rabbi Bentley will talk about peace activism among Israelis and Palestinians, a subject not generally reported in our news media. Then Rabbi Bentley will explain the relevant issues, especially those that have to do with the Palestinians. He indicates, "Each side is hurting the other and each side wants peace. The question is getting past the hurt to get to peace." There will be a discussion period following the presentation. Following the meeting, there will be time for informal conversation.  All are welcome!

RABBI PHILIP J. BENTLEY has served congregations in New Bedford, Massachusetts; Curacao in the Netherlands Antilles; Jericho NY; Queens NY; Chicago IL, and Santa Fe NM as well as Hendersonville. He has been involved in community affairs and Jewish organizations throughout his life and has served on the boards of such organizations as the Jewish Peace Fellowship, the Social Action Commission of Reform Judaism, the Jewish Labor Committee, as well as local interfaith organizations.. Rabbi Bentley is the author of many published articles on a variety of subjects and is currently working on his first book.

If anyone is headed to this from West Asheville, I'd love a ride.

I hope you'll come and, also, to the one this month on Humanism and Ethical Culture - how they are alike and different! :-)
