Winter Festival - "Winter Beauties"

The Winter Festival - "Winter Beauties" will be  celebrated at the  Sunday, December 15th meeting of the Ethical Society of  Asheville, 2:00-3:30 PM at the Friends Meeting House, 227 Edgewood Road in North  Asheville (off Merrimon Avenue near UNCA).  The Winter Festival will feature the beauty of nature in winter and what nature can teach us at this time of year.  All ages are invited to participate, bringing something beautiful from the winter landscape to share.  Following the program there will be a potluck meal featuring holiday specialties from our members and friends.

Joy McConnell, our presenter and facilitator, is a certified Ethical Culture Leader (clergy).  Before becoming a Leader, Joy was a director of religious education, curriculum writer and festival planner/director for many years at the Ethical Society of St. Louis.  Joy loves to engage members and friends in preparation for festivals and welcomes guests to join us at 1:30 to help decorate our space and prepare for our celebration of "Winter's Beauties."

After serving as Associate Leader in St. Louis and Leader in  Chicago, Joy served as AEU Growth and Development Professional.  Joy consulted with Ethical Societies across the US, was involved in AEU growth initiatives and led many workshops. Joy was one of the founders of the AEU Lay Leadership Summer School and served on staff from 1996 to 2008.  She is currently consulting leader for the Ethical Society of Asheville, NC, and volunteers for the American Ethical Union.  She has an MA in English Language and Literature from The University of Chicago and graduated with the third class of the Humanist Institute.  As a life-long learner, Joy has continued to expand her knowledge and practice in several fields, most recently in studies of neurobiology and its relationship to compassionate communication.

Of course I am biased because I planned and presented the program. Most of all I was very pleased with everyone's participation. People were generous in sharing their own experiences, memories, images and feelings about Winter.

We certainly welcome newcomers to our festival. With a potluck meal following the celebration, we will probably be extending our time until 4:30-5:30. Please feel free to bring a dish for our buffet table and call me [masked]) as soon as you can to tell me what you are bringing so that we can have a balanced meal (even though I would love ALL desserts). We are looking forward to greeting you.
