"The 3 R’s: Education Issues in NC" will be the subject of the Sunday April 20th meeting of the Ethical Society of Asheville. 2:00-3:30 pm at The Friends Meeting House located at 227 Edgewood Road (near UNCA).
What are the issues facing public education in North Carolina? Did you know... • North Carolina pays its teachers $10,000 less than the national average? In fact, North Carolina ranks 46 out of 50 in teacher salaries. • The state legislature has eliminated career status for teachers as well as salary increases for advanced degrees? • The latest education budget forced school districts to make "discretionary cuts" costing teachers, teacher assistants and support personnel their jobs? We will also discuss • Moral Mondays and the role of educators in that movement • What children need to be successful in school (teaching assistants in the early grades, smaller class sizes, excellent and caring teachers, and access to quality materials/technology) • What you can do to help!
There will be a discussion period following the presentation. Following the meeting, there will be time for informal conversation. All are welcome!
