"The New Jim Crow" will be the topic led and facilitated by Jane W. White, community activist and volunteer extraordinaire, at the Sunday July 20th meeting of the Ethical Society of Asheville, 2:00-3:30 pm at The Friends Meeting House located at 227 Edgewood Road (near UNCA). White will share a recorded presentation of Michelle Alexander, author of the books, The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness, which originally aired on C-Span 2.
White, retired to Asheville in 2006 after a full career in music as a singer, teacher of professional singers and college instructor. She has long been a community activist working to alleviate homelessness and has continued that effort since moving to WNC by volunteering in a number of Homeward Bound initiatives. Additionally, she is actively involved in the NC Guardian ad Litem program, a promoter of Just Economics and the Living Wage campaign and chair of the Ethical Society of Asheville’s Program Committee. Injustice anywhere is anathema to her.
There will be a discussion period following the presentation. Following the meeting, there will be time for informal conversation and light refreshments. All are welcome!
