Interfaith Service of Remembrance & Healing re: Sandy Hook Elementary School

The Mountain Area Interfaith Forum and the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Asheville invite you to join in an interfaith Service of Remembrance & Healing in the sanctuary at 1 Edwin Place Thursday, December 20 at 5 pm.

As we enter the longest night of the year, we remember the lives lost at Sandy Hook Elementary School last Friday. This will be a short service of music and reflection, appropriate for children. We will honor our determination to send light into the shadows and to be the light in our communities.

Like people of conscience all over the world Mountain Area Interfaith Forum members grieve the tragic loss of lives in Newtown, CT last week. Our faith traditions value each individual. We offer our sustaining thoughts and prayers to the families affected by this tragedy. We come together now to send light into the shadows of this heartbreaking event and to bring light into our communities. We are members of Christian (Episcopalian, Presbyterian, United Church of Christ) Jewish, Unitarian Universalist, Friends (Quakers), Wiccan and Ethical Humanist speaking for ourselves, informed by our faith traditions. We trust that lessons can be learned from the darkness that befell Newtown and we endeavor now and in the future to work together and with others to bring about greater community of multiple faiths.

Joy McConnell and I represent the Ethical Society of Asheville in Mountain Area Interfaith Forum.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
