Love is a verb AND a synonym for Ethical Action

“Love is a verb AND a synonym for Ethical Action” will be led by Terra Weaver at the Sunday, February 17th meeting of the Ethical Society of Asheville 2:00-3:30 PM, at the Friends Meeting House, 227 Edgewood Road in North Asheville (off Merrimon Avenue near UNCA).  The program will provide an engaging overview of individuals throughout history who stepped outside of personal comfort zones and social mores to demonstrate love for fellow humans. Terra Weaver, ESA member and vice president of the board, will present the historical overview concluding with a discussion with local community leaders sharing their first-hand experiences of choosing ethical responses and actions rooted in love for humans and human rights. Terra Weaver is an educator with a B.S. in Communications Education and an M Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction using Technology.  She is an advocate for community wellness; co-founder of Zeal to Heal, Inc. in 2008; and currently consults and produces media, curricula and programs for clients passionate about education, community-building and inspiring effective solutions for growth. There will be a discussion period following the presentation. Following the meeting, there will be time for informal conversation. All are welcome!

Excellent! The local community leaders present were members of the Blue Moon Group. This is a group of individuals with opposing beliefs about abortion (some pro-life, some pro-choice) who started meeting regularly 2002 in an effort to lessen the chance of violence in our community. They have continued to meet monthly since then. Here is a link to information about the Blue Moon Group: http://www.main.nc.us/wncceib/CHOICEact31305.htm The graphics in the presentation, the music, the meeting brochure, the almond orange cake (gluten free)... were all superb. If you were not there you missed quite an opportunity to hear a model of how people who will likely will never agree on the issue of abortion came to (and continue to) share their own perspectives, discuss a shared goal in our community and reach common ground regarding issues on which they are very much are in agreement.

The Blue Moon Group members present modeled a process which we would all do well to emulate.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
