New Meetup: Ethical Action Activity: LETTER-WRITING ACTION NEEDED BY JULY 12

From: Jackie S.

Announcing a new Meetup for Ethical Society of Asheville!

What: Ethical Action Activity: LETTER-WRITING ACTION NEEDED BY JULY 12

When: Monday, July 12,[masked]:00 AM

Where: (A location has not been chosen yet.)

Dear Ethical Society Meetup members,
You have two more days to send off the letters and let me know so your efforts can be added into the tally.

At the American Ethical Union Annual Assembly last month a resolution was passed to urge President Obama and EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson to aggressively institute regulations to reduce green house emissions in the event that Congress does not. Please see the letter copied below.

In mid-July Curt Collier, a Leader at the New York Society for Ethical Culture, will meet with Lisa Jackson?s Deputy. He will present the 2010 AEU Assembly Climate Change Resolution, the letter from the AEU President, Jennifer Scates (member of the Austin, TX Ethical Society) and the number for the sum total of letters that have been sent.

I, of course, would like for that number to be as high as possible and am requesting that you:

  • sign, address and pay the postage for two letters --- one to the President and a copy to the EPA.
  • let me know that you have sent the letters by the morning of July 12th so I can tally the number coming from people I contacted and make the number available to Curt for his meeting with EPA staff.
Let me know by RSVPing "yes" and making any comment you would like or by emailing me at [address removed]

Feel free to forward this message to others you think would be willing to send the two letters. Thank you for your consideration of this action for all of us and our earth.

Yours in ethical community,
Jackie

SAMPLE LETTER:

President Barack Obama
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20006

Dear President Obama:

I congratulate you and EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson for the victory in the Senate, June 10, 2010, upholding the EPA?s authority to regulate green house gases.

I also applaud you and Ms. Jackson for taking steps to phase in new regulations and I fully support the EPA?s actions to:

Regulate carbon emissions from cars, light and heavy trucks; ease rules for manufacturers to sell fuel conversion systems allowing vehicles to run on alternative fuels; retire permanently coal-fired power plants in violation of the Clean Air Act; stop mountain-top removal of carbon; and start in January 2011 to phase in new requirements for large facilities emitting green house gases, and in July 2011 to extend such requirements to smaller facilities.

Furthermore, if Congress fails to act I urge you to use all of the constitutional power vested in the executive branch to take more comprehensive steps to keep our air free of pollution and our planet free of the drastic consequences of global warming.

Best Wishes!

Sincerely,
