I could have had a better experience. Most of the commentary was either viscerally negative or had an unreasonably cynical subtext. It amounted to a room full of angry people commiserating. Maybe it was just that meeting & topic. I wouldn't recommend any of this group's meetings centered around discussing contemporary politics.

It was a very normal kind of conversation about the issue, in general, and unusual in we were talking about the actual torture report without much talking about the report itself.

Richard is a master of conducting this type of meeting. He has just the right salt and pepper topics, introduction, keeps the meeting running smoothly, and I leave these meetings feeling inspired, curious, more knowledgeable, listening to a different angle from how I was interpreting an idea, issue, subject. The members are informed, curious, and each is a unique addition to each discussion. One of my favorite meeting we attend!

My thinking clearly needs improvement. It would be easier to just let go and let the torrent of our culture do my thinking for me. Is this not what most people do?

I'll be back, although I teased that maybe not, after I found out how most of the dozen or so who continued the discussion turned out to be too "purist" (or some would say "politically dogmatic" to vote for a certain candidate in the Democratic party I am counting on to fend of the next George Bush, Jr. Geez. I thought Richard's gathering was my new "church."
