Re:Old WivesTales, alas, closes June 4th: Juliet is right . . .

I drove by tonight to confirm, and there is a note from Holly saying at 67 she has other eggs to fry . . . and by the way, as Richard knows, many churches -- especially non-fundamentalist fairly progressive congregations -- like to serve communities by making rooms available, but of course not on Sunday. I go to a Toastmaster's Saturday morning gathering at Rose City United Methodist, run as a modest "bring something" potluck, but of course most of Richard's gathering wouldn't exactly find this the most comfortable setting, and besides a place like Kell's or Tom's is perfect . . . I wouldn't mind a cover charge. I always spend at least $10 counting a tip, but that often means a cocktail before noon, and most of my lady friends warn me that guys who drink before 12 noon are probably alcoholics.

Glad Juliet could save us from that wild goose chase trying to set up at Old Wives Tales.

I still can't get the logic of Tom's having a big room and saying "$5" spent by each and then reversing field and saying not profitable enough to deal with staffing. It is true they were about clueless about how to manage orders and bills, but that would be a learning curve issue we were going to be very cooperative about . . .

What are we going to do?

One of my favorite waltz dancing socializing places was called Lenore's and a wonderful host like Richard kept it going for a $5 cover in effect that was set up with a jar to make it easy, and some brought snacks or even potluck and then, voila, after six years the owners of the place "Lenore's" shut down and the host tried moving to another venue and nobody came . . . it was farther for most of the regular men, I guess, so it was short of partners . . . anyhow after losing Lenores and now Old Wives Tales (which I had frequented with family 'cause its children's area was fun for kids), and having Richard's gatherings in limbo is more than a guy ought to have take on a holiday weekend.

Whatarewegoingtodo?
