Killing with Kindness?

  • Mar 17, 2013 · 10:30 AM
  • Univ. of MO Extension Center

What is compassion? Is it possible to be really compassionate, and is it effective? Is it simply an emotion that allows us to retreat from the hatred in the world into sentimental, religious platitudes and panaceas? Does it enable hatred?

Chris Van Mierlo will present this engaging program. She lives in St. Peters where both she and her husband teach at St. Charles Community College. Chris was born and raised in South Africa and came to the United States when she was 17. Many of her opinions and insights were formed by her parents' fight to abolish the system of apartheid in South Africa.

*NEW* Coffee & Conversation at 11:30am
Immediately following the program, please stay and have a cup of coffee, some light snacks and great conversations with fellow attendees. Regulars, please note: There will be no coffee prepared prior to the program, but feel free to bring your own.
