Let's make wraps. And while we eat them, let's watch a one hour video that highlights some of the latest research between diet and disease prevention. This video, called "Uprooting the Leading Causes of Death," is both entertaining and packed full of mouth-dropping information.
Why this video? One of the recurring themes in Eugene Veggies profiles is that people want to learn more about plant-strong eating. By eating a whole plant-food meal and watching this movie, you can meet that goal from two angles. What's cool about this movie is that it is perfect for both newbies and the pros.
Why wraps? 1) Ease, It's easier to bring some cut up veggies or a spread than a whole dish. 2) Raw-option. Not everyone cares about raw food, but lots of our members do. You can make raw wraps, so that should meet everyone's needs. 3) Fun. It's just plain fun to assemble food at a party like this.
What To Bring
I'll supply various types of grain and corn wraps and spices like cumin, chili powder, salt and pepper. Note: If you want to make a raw wrap, feel free to bring large lettuce leafs or maybe something like collard greens for your outer wrap material.
You can bring one or two innards (to share).
Example Innards :
• spreads like hummus, guacamole, eggless salad, vegan mayo, "cheeze" sauce, Tuno etc.
• veggies (cut these up please) like carrots, lettuce, spinach, broccoli, fennel, olives, onions, garlic, avocado slices, mushrooms, tomatoes, bell peppers, jicama, cilantro, parsley, etc! - Veggies can be raw or cooked
• baked tofu or tempeh
• sweet potatoes
• cooked grains (perhaps seasoned in some way) like: rice, quinoa, etc.
• vegan cheese (home-made or store bought)
• Peanut butter and bananas for kids ??? (just thinking...)
(No meat, dairy or eggs please)
Whew. If we get a lot of people, we will have a really nice selection and probably a lot of very interesting wraps!
I'll e-mail you last minute information and directions to my house a few days before the event. (Please be considerate in maintaining your RSVP. If you RSVP "yes" and you can not attend, change your RSVP to "no" right away. If we are a few days out from the event, do attend baring an emergency.)
Kids are very welcome, but probably only older kids would be interested in the movie.
We have lots of new people in Eugene Veggies and several "old-timers" who I haven't seen in a while. Hope to see you all there!
