Comfort Food Potluck - All In A Bowl

  • Sep 29, 2013 · 5:00 PM
  • JJ's Place - North Eugene - I'll e-mail location later

Another event option! Thank you to those people who participated in voting for event formats. The bake sale is clearly out. But the Recipe Swap, much to my surprise, didn't get a lot of support either. So, I thought I would offer one more format. Vote for this event by RSVPing 'yes' if you would come to this event. Votes must be in by September 10.

Event Description
*************************
Bowls. Potluck food usually seems to work best on a plate. But that leaves out some wonderful comfort foods like chillies, soups, and stews. Someone could bring bread/rolls to accompany the dishes if desired. And don't forget desserts: puddings, tapioca, mousse, and runny lava cake.

So, in this event, we will share food that belongs in bowls. It will be a great way to get ourselves in the mood for the upcoming winter. We could each bring two bowls. One would be for main food. Take a small sample of a soup or stew. Rinse out your bowl. Then try the next one! The other bowl would be for desserts. Same idea.

What do you think? I love the idea.

PS: One more idea: If the weather is good, I could get my Rocket Stove going to keep at least one soup pot warm. Ie, we could make this an indoor-outdoor event. And if others have Rocket Stoves, you could bring them. Don't know what a Rocket Stove is? Look here if interested:

Most excellent. The cuisine was divine. The company superb. Probably my favorite Eugene Veggies meetup event (of 3 attended) so far.

JJ, It is possible that I saw your beautiful great dane (or one that looks like this picture) in the parking lot by Sundance this morning. I am looking forward to this potluck--I am leaning toward preparing Mac-n-Cheese (vegan style).

(sigh) - It wasn't Duke. But that would have been cool if it had been. ----- Oooooh, Mac-n-cheese - PERFECT! I LOVE mac-n-cheese! You can come to my house any time. No pressure of course. :-) - JJ

I am not too good of a cook, but I can bring something. Maybe somebody can help me with something easy and idiot proof to make? Or else.. I can buy some yummy biscuits from that place we had breakfast a few weeks ago. YUM!

Renu: No worries on what you bring. I could e-mail you some chilli or soup recipes if you want to step out of your comfort zone. However, if you prefer to buy something (those biscuits or even a vegan commercial soup), that would be fine too! Not everyone likes to cook and luckily we can all share a plant based meal without having to do so. Let me know in a private e-mail if you want me to send you recipes.

I'll bring the best red beans and rice ever, along with the recipes.
