Zumwalt: Get some fresh air - and walking snack share?

  • April 19, 2014 · 11:30 AM

Want to walk around in a beautiful area near Firm Ridge reservoir? Zumwalt has big trees, mini-forrest paths, open grassy areas, and water you can wade in! It even has a[masked] year old oak tree that is getting a Heritage tree designation this month. This is a flat area that is quite accessible for all fitness levels. And best of all (for me), the park allows dogs to be off leash.

My April is so busy personally, I wasn't sure if I could do a single Eugene Veggies event. But then at today's lunch at Ta Ra Rin, a couple people requested an outdoor event. And I have to take my dog out anyway, right? So, I thought I would invite you to join me and Duke as we walk around in the beautiful park, Zumwalt.

Food? I was thinking it would be nice to have a food element. Either meet up afterwards for a quick lunch for anyone interested - OR maybe anyone interested could bring snacks to share. I was thinking that one of the concerns people have about whole plant food based eating is what to do on the go? We could share ideas and even sample some. Let me know what you think...

Great event for the whole family. Kids welcome! There are no playgrounds, but it is really a nice walk and if kids want to bring a frisbee or something, there is lots of open area for that kind of play. Or if it is warm enough, they might go wading in the water.

Dogs (who are kid, adult and dog friendly) are welcome too!

Zumwalt is about 25 minutes out of Eugene - heading toward Veneta.  Prior to the event, I will send an e-mail with directions to the "yes" RSVPers, since the address above will not send you to the correct location. If you do not get the e-mail by Thursday the 17th, please let me know and I'll e-mail you separately. Sometimes Meetup e-mails get caught in spam folders.

I am so sad that I have not been able to make any of the meet ups for a while. We almost made it to the ta ra rin meet up, but then family all wanted to have lunch out (sure wish they were all vegans too-sigh). We will try to make an event this coming summer.

Sorry, JJ and all. I am going to have to beg out of this meetup. The weather is too yuck. It just started raining again.

Larry, That's perfectly understandable! I was worried about that. Though I have report, it stopped raining right when we got there, and it stayed nice right until we all left, about 1:00. ||| We'll catch you next time.

I would be there if I could. I, too, think it's a great summer idea for us and our pups. Or without pups.
