Potluck Dinner and Possible Deviled "Egg" Demo

Eugene Veggies: It's been a long time since we did a simple potluck. We have lots of new people in our group who have listed some yummy dishes in their bios. I'm looking forward to trying them!

Potluck Items
Please make them free of meat, dairy and eggs. And make it a dish that can go on a plate. That still leaves you a bazillion and one options. I'll supply plates and utensils, tea and tea cups.

Deviled "Egg" Demo?

I am so proud of myself for coming up with what I think are the perfect Deviled "Eggs" (or Satan Bites as I call them). These babies are egg-free, but full of all the great taste and texture. If there is interest by the attendees, I'll pass out my recipe and (if interested) do a demo on how to make them. I made these things for a recent Passover Seder and my (non-vegan) family and friends LOVED them! They work equally well for Easter or any time you want to serve a neat-looking appetizer.

Door Prizes!
There is a secret ingredient to making vegan egg dishes. One of our members, Jody, kindly donated a large amount of this secret ingredient for door prizes. Two or three lucky people will get to go home with some. Thank you Jody!

Directions To JJ's House
I'll send directions to my house on May 14. If you do not receive the directions by then, let me know and I'll re-send from gmail. Sometimes Meetup e-mails go to people's spam.

It was great meeting everyone last night and getting to try all the new dishes. Here's the link to the popcorn tofu recipe some people wanted. http://thevedge.org/2013/02/tofu-popcorn-chickn-vegan-gluten-free/

Carolina, I sent the directions yesterday.

I have another idea. If you go to my bio/member page on the Meetup site and send me an e-mail, I can reply to it and it will go to your e-mail from my e-mail - leaving out Meetup. For some reason, lots of filters don't like the meetup e-mails. (Note if you find you don't get my monthly newsletter or notices of new events in your e-mail box, you may want to check your filters in your mail.) See you Saturday! - JJ

I've got food prepped, but waiting for address before I do the final making. If I made it and don't ever get the address today then I'll have way too much vegan chocolate mousse for myself and my girlfriend to eat.

In case you didn't get my email, requesting the address, please send it to [masked]. Thanks!

    Are children allowed to come?

    May 8, 2014

    • JJ

Carolina: I love it when children come! The piece to keep in mind is that I have a Great Dane. So, any kids that come have to be OK with a Great Dane in the room. (He's a *very* friendly dog.) I can't promise that other children will be there this time, but we are starting to get more children participating in Eugene Veggies events. So, if you bring kids, they may even have company. If not, we will dote on just your kid(s). :-) - JJ, Organizer

Hope it isn't too late to RSVP, but I hope to hear back soon. If I do, I'll whip of some vegan awesomeness and bring it by.

hmmmmm, i thought i'd posted this question a week ago or so- apparently it never made it from my phone to the wide world of cyber space. JJ, this question is for you (or maybe there's someone else as well who has an answer): can u provide soup eating apparatuses? i'd really like to make a soup (its one of my specialties & i just concocted a very decadent Smoky Sweet Potato soup that blew my friend & also roommate's mind). the catch for me is that i'm just settling in & don't have enough bowls/cups.

question #2) would it work for anyone who's attending the potluck this Sat to catch a ride with you? i was intending to bike there (don't own an automobile) but it dawned on me that i have no way to bring the dish(s) i'm making. i live near W 1st & Madison street, if this could work for anyone you can reach me at[masked]-3087. thank you so very kindly, i look forward to meeting all of you :)

Ben: Your soup sounds amazing. I could probably provide something along the lines of bowls and cups. So, that should be OK with the number of people who are coming. || I hope someone is able to jump in an offer you a ride. If not, I thought I would let you know that at least one member has made it to my house in the past by bus. And it just so happened that another member was able to take that person home afterwards. No promises, but that might work out if no one volunteers to pick you up. || I'm looking forward to meeting you! - JJ

aloha JJ :) i'm not going to make it today, i'm sorry for the late notice. i did think about taking the bus over (which in theory would work), but i would have to carry a soup & cornbread about a half mile to the bus stop which is not far to me at all but i don't feel it would work well to carry the dishes also (without dropping them). i look forward to meeting up with you guys next time, & cooking for you all. have a wondrous time together!

Hi JJ. I didn't get the directions or probably didn't see them in my junk mail. Can you resend them? Thanks. Look forward to meeting everyone.

Angela, Thanks for asking. I re-sent them. If you didn't get the e-mail again, I have another idea.
