Let's take a course on Art: Paul-Émile Borduas et André Breton

In this instance, instead of a dialogic relationship between two painters, we look at the relationship between a painter and a poet - the founder of the Surrealist movement in Paris, no less. For Borduas, the determining factor was not any particular Surrealist painting, but rather Breton's thinking. He was struck by a passage from a Breton text entitled Château étoilé (Starry Castle) that alluded to Leonardo da Vinci's advice to his students to contemplate an old wall for inspiration. With this as his starting point, Borduas would in turn define pictorial Automatisme. The lecture is in French and free of charge.
