Learn to play the ancient Asian game of Go, also known as Wei Chi and Baduk. Go is the oldest board game in the world, estimated to be 4,000 years old. It is a game of pure skill. The rules are simple, and can be learned in a few minutes, but mastering the game can take a lifetime. The Evanston Go Club is the oldest Go club in the Chicagoland area, having met continuously every week for the past 15 years. We have a wide range of players, from novices to strong amateurs. We are a free club, we welcome everyone, and we love to teach beginners! We are an official chapter of the American Go Association, and we hold four AGA-rated tournaments a year. We also host a professional workshop every January. We meet every Wednesday from 6 to 10 PM at Starbucks, 1734 Sherman Ave in Evanston. Please come join us! Stay for as long or as short as you like. We look forward to introducing you to what many consider to be the most challenging game of skill ever devised. Nolan Bushnell, the founder of Atari, has called go his "favorite game of all time". And chess master Emanuel Lasker said, "The rules of Go are so elegant, organic, and rigorously logical that if intelligent life forms exist elsewhere in the universe, they almost certainly play Go." I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
