Generation X Book Club for Women

Hi readers,

We will be discussing The Passion by Jeanette Winterson. This book was suggested by Sharan, one of our newest book club members!

* When you RSVP "yes", you commit to reading the book and attending this meetup. We need to make restaurant reservations with an exact count to accommodate the large group.

* Each member is responsible for her bill plus 7% NJ sales tax and gratuity.

* At the meetup, please pitch one new book for the group to vote on for the following month's book club.

* Kindly help us search for a new venue for book club, ideally with round tables, for a large number of attendees such as restaurants, libraries, community centers, etc.

Here is what this story is all about... Set during the tumultuous years of the Napoleonic Wars, The Passion intertwines the destinies of two remarkable people: Henri, a simple French soldier, who follows Napoleon from glory to Russian ruin; and Villanelle, the red-haired, web-footed daughter of a Venetian boatman, whose husband has gambled away her heart. In Venice’s compound of carnival, chance, and darkness, the pair meet their singular destiny.

In her unique and mesmerizing voice, Winterson blends reality with fantasy, dream, and imagination to weave a hypnotic tale with stunning effects.

Good book that we discussed and saw different angles of the book I wouldn't have thought about if it wasn't for this group.

I still plan on coming tomorrow, but my train is still not running, so I've been taking a bus. With traffic it's hard to tell how late I might be if at all. Is there a number I should call or text if I have to cancel last minute?

With everything that has happened over the last couple weeks with the storm I have barely even started reading this months book so I may have to change my RSVP. I'm also wondering if Rafferty's is even ready to handle a large group of people? A lot of restaurants are just getting back up and running at this point.

It's okay if you did not read this month's book due to Hurricane Sandy. Please come and hangout.

Just found out that parking is now free in Asbury Park, for 3 hour increments, until January! :) So ignore my last post.

FYI Asbury Park has paid parking on Cookman Ave. where Rafferty's is, and you need to pay at the parking machines. They take credit cards and cash-I would bring cash just in case there is a malfunction in the machines. It's $1 an hour on Cookman and the streets around there.

With the storm going on and the libraries closed I've been having some trouble getting my hands on the book. Anyone have a copy they can lend?

The ocean Twp library is open on Deal Road. I do have an extra Kindle I could loan u but let me know soon. I am staying @ my sister's in Oakhurst and I would have to stop by my house to get it; which is only 5 minutes away. Then I need yo make sure that the book can be viewed my extra and my current Kindle (Fire). It should b ok though.
