Lighting Demo

We will be talking about the characteristics of light and  how to set up some of the equipment at two demo stations.

We will have several different types of lighting instruments (LED, tungsten and perhaps a Kino flo unit) and some tools to control the lights.  People will actually get to set lights, clip gels, set a flag, etc. We are  focusing on the tools and not the art, helping people get a sense of the amount of work the job requires, learn the names for the most commonly used tools, and learn how to set stuff up.

Thanks, Jeff. I had fun, too.

We didn't get to using flags, nets, and silks, which is the best part: it's all about manipulating light through the use of shadows and shading. Larry has this little flag kit that folds down completely. I wanted to steal (ooops, I mean borrow, yes, borrow) but I had no opportunity to smuggle it to my car. So I bought the kit.

It's the same kit as his, but better since it's mine.

Anyway, it's a handy little kit since the frames break all the way down. I'll bring to next meeting so at least people can fondle the gear. Which sounds dirty but isn't.

I enjoyed myself greatly. Ohio is like the Library of Congress on lighting. If she plans on another session I would recommend attending. Even for an old dog like myself, I learned a few new tricks.

I have a plethora of different lights I could bring. Arri 5" Fresnel, HMI lights, and Large LED lights. I will also have my camera and monitor with me if you need it. Looking forward to coming. I can never know enough about lighting techniques.
