The Evolutionary Spirituality- Charlottesville Meetup is a reading and discussion group formed to explore the ideas of Evolutionary Spirituality - an emerging movement with diverse influences including Integral Spirituality, Spiral Dynamics, and Evolutionary Enlightenment. It is non-theistic and science-based, while also acknowledging the mystery and awe of an evolving cosmos.
Leading thinkers in the field include Ken Wilber, Terry Patten, Craig Hamilton, Don Beck, Rick Hanson, Jean Houston and Barbara Marx Hubbard, among other innovative thinkers and spiritual teachers. The common thread is the idea that individual spiritual development is indivisible from and contributes to a Universe that is itself developing and evolving -- and thus, that how we live our lives really matters.
We meet monthly to explore these new perspectives through books, videos, and lively, open-minded discussions. Each meeting has a topic of focus, based on book readings (Evolutionary Enlightenment by Andrew Cohen, Evolutionaries by Carter Phipps, Evolution’s Purpose by Steve McIntosh, etc.), articles on related topics (Spiral Dynamics, Byron Katie’s The Work, evolutionary philosophy through history, etc.), and videos.
If you’re interested in exploring conscious evolution and engaging with the biggest questions of our time in a fun, no-strings-attached setting with like-minded people – contact us! Evolutionary Spirituality’s blending of timeless spiritual wisdom with seminal discoveries in neuroscience, astrophysics, social psychology and other cutting-edge fields offers an ideal framework for discussing nearly any important issue – from how to make a real contribution to society, to world change, gender roles, climate change, ethics, technology, non-duality, and of course, personal and collective spirituality.
Because we are looking for a high quality of conversation… and because we meet in a private home… we like to talk to people briefly before they come to their first meeting to make sure our interests are aligned. Having said that, we’re very open to new members and new perspectives. Please contact our hosts to tell us why you’re interested in checking us out. We look forward to hearing from you!
