Ex-Muslims North (EMN) was formed just over three years ago and serves as a grass-roots social and support network for those in the North of England who have, for whatever reason, left Islam. We are a varied bunch - our group contains people of differing ages, locations, opinions on Islam and our experiences of the religion and leaving it.
If you're visiting our page, the chances are that you have decided that you're no longer a Muslim or that you are seriously thinking about not being a Muslim anymore. We are acutely aware of how lonely and isolating it can feel if you're having serious doubts/questions about Islam or if you've already decided the religion isn't for you. We are also aware of some of the continuous issues you may face as an ex-muslim/apostate/non-believer - problems with family, friends, conscience, well-being and so on. Through this group, we have developed a community of individuals and friends who have faced many of these conflicts/questions in their past or are dealing with this issues currently. We firmly believe that knowing other people that have gone through or are going through some of the issues you may be going through helps immensely - we offer support, advice and solidarity to each other. We also have a more light-hearted side- we're a social group which does activities and has discussions about all sorts.
We are NOT an 'activist' group although there are many in our group who are involved in politics, current affairs and Ex-Muslim activism. We are also closely affiliated with similar groups in London, the Midlands and even internationally.
We primarily work via our private group on social media (this Meetup.com page is used simply to attract new members), where we discuss everything and anything - current affairs, personal issues, organising meetups and other more light-hearted topics.
We also try to meet in person regularly- we host 'meetups' or events every few weeks across the area, be it house parties, visits to attractions, restaurants trips and so on. Due to how we use meetup.com etc, these events will seldom be posted on this website.
We look forward to hearing from you soon! The EMN Moderators
