Tonight?s philosophy topic: The foundation of political principles

From: David V.

Greetings fellow deep thinkers,

Don't forget - we meet just outside the cafe area in the front of the store.

Thursday's philosophy meetup: The foundation of political principles

Please submit your RSVP regardless of whether you can make tonight's meeting, so I can see how many people are active in the group.

After discussing our justification of moral principles, let's do the same thing for political principles. What facts of reality give rise to statements about which social arrangement are desirable?

Here are some sample political claims you can argue for or against:

  • Democracy is good.
  • "No one ought to harm another in his life, health, liberty, or possessions.? (John Locke, Two Treatises of Government)
  • No Free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. (Thomas Jefferson, Virginia Constitution)

See you soon!
