This event is a community-wide celebration of the Navesink River and all the recreational opportunities it provides to enthusiasts young and old. Starting at 11am and ending at 3pm, local boating organizations along Red Bank's Navesink River will offer visitors the chance to experience kayaking, canoeing, sailing & rowing. Participants will have the opportunity to tour or play Tennis on Red Bank's famous and historic Clay Courts. Environmental groups will be on hand to discuss river ecology and to provide hands on activities for children to experience the river, such as seining, fish printing and touch pools. Local businesses along Front St. in Red Bank will offer menue samplings and event related discounts.
The event will begin at Maple Cove, located at the foot of Maple Ave. in Red Bank and end at Marine Park. The Jersey Paddler of Brick, the largest distributor of kayaks and canoes in the state, will have on hand 15 types of kayakes to demo, along with different types of paddles and life vests. There will also be acertified kayak instructor on hand, who will provide a free kayak lesson in basic kayaking (must have your own boat).
Navesink Rowing, adjacent to Maple Cove, will host a learn-to-row session and will provide information on the programs it offers for adults and for youth (14 & older). The Navesink Maritime Heritage Assoc. and it's River Rangers program, an area summer youth program, will showcase their wooden canoes made by local children and will allow children ten & older, to paddle these boats on the river.
Beyond Maple Cove, visitors are encouraged to walk along Front St. to Boat Club Court. Along the way, they can stroll through River Side Gardens Park and take in the lovely views of the river while learning about all the different programs, concerts and performaces offeres there throughout the year. Jim Crawford and his friends will be there to serenade you as you stroll through the park.
Businesses along the way, such as Muscle Maker Grill, Wayne's Market, Front St Trattoria, Edible Arrangements, Work out World, Nima Oriental Rugs and Boondocks Restaurant, will be out on Front St. to offer samples and discount coupons.
At the foot of Boat Club Court, the historic Monmouth Boat Club will behosting an open hous, offering sail boat rides and information about their various adult & youth Sailing programs, including club membership. In addition, they will have hot dogs & hamburgers for hungry walkers. The North Shrewsbury Ice Boat & Yacht Club will also be holding an open house and will be open for tour.
Just east of Monmouth Boat Club is the newly renovated Marine Park, where the Clearwater's Garvey, the Adam Hyler, an oyster baymen's boat will be on display. With them will be Seas, a nonprofit group that offers sailing lessons at all levels at adults and that teaches the NJ Marine Police Boating Safety Class. They will be giving sailboat rides on their 22ft sailboat down at Marine Park.
We are also hoping to get some Paddle Boarders there to display and educate people on their sport of Paddle Boarding.
