Brosella Folk & Jazz Festival: De Temps Antan

** PLEASE NOTE THAT THE ORGANIZER HAS INFORMED ME THE ENTRANCE FEE IS 3 EURO, WHICH INCLUDES 2 DRINKS **

Join the Expat Club Brussels community for a nice evening of folk music at the 37th edition of the Brosella Folk & Jazz Festival. The free concerts will be held at the Théâtre de Verdure / Groentheater, which is just a few minutes by foot from the Atomium. The entrance to the theater is only 3 euro, but for this small amount you get a great atmosphere and lovely music. And I'm sure we'll find our ways to the bar as well. We cannot reserve seats, so we’ll have to search for them as a group (and be a bit lucky), but the organizers told me it shouldn't be too much of a problem. The concert we will attend is from De Temps Antan and starts at 21h15, so we’ll leave from the Atomium at 20h30 sharp!

De Temps Antan draw inspiration from the four corners of the globe. From Russia to Malaysia, via France, the United States and Greece, they conquered all audiences. In an explosion of violin, accordion, harmonica, guitar, bouzouki and foot tapping, De Temps Antan propels the traditional folk to an authentic invitation to party.

De Temps Antan’s show offers real explosive response songs, jigs, foot-tapping reels and their music convinces even the fiercest opponents of the traditional movement! De Temps Antan is without a doubt one of the most powerful trios of traditional music in Québec. (click here for some videos)

History Brosella

"Brosella Folk was created in 1977, on the initiative of the City of Brussels. Its purpose was to insufflate new live into an open air amphitheatre which was designed for the World Fair of 1932 by the landscape architect Jules Buyssens. But after the World Expo of 1958 it had been deserted. From the very start, Brosella proposes a weekend of cosy delight. The fabulous location guarantees a unique atmosphere and excellent acoustics. The festival presents an astounding and high quality program with vigilantly selected artists among which both notorieties and exceptional discoveries. From the very start, the organizers of Brosella have been searching for contemporary developments, versions and interpretations of various traditions in the Folk field. Later they also explored all possible expressions and improvisations in the Jazz. The aim is to work beyond the borders of each genre. Brosella Folk & Jazz wants to present music which is free of dogmatic restrictions and stereotypes." (source: Brosella website)

I had a great time as well. Great musicians, and wonderful entertainers. Unfortunately you had to leave before the end, because it became one big party in the end :-) Pics are being uploaded right now!

The entrance fee of 3 euros includes 2 drink tokens, and you can buy as many as you want! (this information comes from the organisers) :)

Hey, they didn't inform me about that. In that case it is a bargain. The last time I bought a drink at such festivals for 1,50 euro I was still paying in guilders, and then I think it must have been at least 5 years before the introduction of the Euro :-) Thanks Ben!!!

I am planning to go on Saturday but I will go there much earlier. The excellent live music starts at 15:00. Eliza Carthy (playing at 18:45) is a superstar in the English folk music scene (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eliza_Carthy).

I am also planning to go there on Sunday evening for the live Jazz concerts ... :)

Obviously for those who want to go earlier, that's totally fine. We can unite at the concert itself!
