MR SANDMANN

BRINGER OF DREAMS AND NIGHTMARES

PERFORMANCE STORYTELLING BY BEN HAGGARTY

Via freak-show and moonshine bar, this intense and alarming storytelling performance journeys through the ambivalent mythology of the Sandman, an iconic figure who continues to resonate within literature, film, music and popular culture. Internationally renowned for his bold and dynamic performances, Ben Haggarty presents an exploration of the imagination. Toying with the tension between first and third person narrative, it is Ben himself who becomes our protagonist for the night – who with his transatlantic flight unexpectedly diverted, finds himself in a Southern-State carnival, right in the buckle of the Bible belt. A reluctant customer of an aging freak-show he moves from exhibit to exhibit, each with an increasingly unsettling narrative, until finally the boundary between reality and myth dissolves into a bizarre waking dream where the Sandman himself is puppet-master. With content that flirts with Americana, draws on urban legend, fairytale, myth and folklore, and pays oblique homage to Heinrich Von Kleist, ETA Hoffman, Hans Andersen and Nick Cave, this piece of contemporary storytelling is intelligent and absorbing, sometimes comedic and often disturbing. Mr Sandman has shown at The Soho Theatre, London’s Barbican Centre, Chapter Arts Centre, and Cheltenham Literature Festival, as well as at numerous storytelling clubs and festivals.

It was a really enjoyable night; if there are any other good theatre events coming up don't hesitate to make another meetup -- I'd happily attend.

Will there be any meeting spot or we just go in and meet up???

Hi ajit, I'm hoping it will be easy to spot each other in the entrance hall but I'm inexperienced with meetups. I will be on the lookout anyway :-)

I am coming with my son, but do not know anyone in the group, how will we know who is part of the meet up group?

I am going to be there from 7:30. Probably best to meet up in the foyer and go in together. Hopefully you will recognise me from my photo but I imagine as there are a few of us we should be able to find each other ok? Not sure if the performance is suitable for children but if course not sure how old your son is.

Hi all, so nice to see so many are keen. I think it's probably necessary to reserve tickets which, as Joao suggested, we can do individually. They need to be collected at least 30 mins before the show so I guess I will be seeing some of you around 7:30 tomorrow night.

I've just tried to reserve a ticket. If I am reading the instructions correctly, it appears you cannot reserve a ticket on the day of the performance. I may have that wrong, though. :-(

Yes, it appears to be like it that you cannot book on same day. But still then they say if people dont show up 30 min before show then the tickets would be on sale. so there are always hopes!!!!

Hi everyone, I took the liberty to update this post on the ACCN's (American Coordinating Council of Norway) FB page. If you're not already familiar with the ACCN, that is the organization that puts on the biggest American Independence Day celebration outside of the US. ID2013 is fun family day in Frognerparken

If you'd like to meet other American expats in Oslo for a great BBQ with entertainment and chances to win prizes I highly recommend it. http://ow.ly/5xGLy
