Cross Country Skiing at Sørkedalen Lysløpe

We finally got snow, so lets meet and start the ski season! This place is easy to reach in Oslo and has lighted trails. Do not worry if you have not skied before, I will help you. Sørkalen has great, track prepared, conditions and is free to use. If you are driving rather than meeting for the bus, parking costs 50 NOK. The track is a 1km lighted loop so you can go your own pace without worrying about getting lost.
MEETING POINT: We will take the bus together, Bus 41 (direction Sørkedalen), Vækerøveien 214, near Røa T-bane at 17:27 departure. Please comment if you are driving directly there and we will try to find a meeting spot at the tracks once we arrive.

Is there option to rent the ski

    December 21, 2013

    • Laurie

Not at the trail, but maybe from one of the sports stores?

      December 22, 2013

The only place I know of in Oslo that rents cross-country skis is the Tryvann Ski Resort. But you can buy equipment at big stores like Coop for roughly half the rental price..

If you two bring your own skis I can help you get started. If you know how to walk fairly well you can learn to nordic ski ;)

Need to be careful that everone finds the 41 bus stop. It's no longer right next to Røa T-Bane. It has moved to the NW corner of Vækerøveien and Griniveien, by the Jernia hardware store.. PS: Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery ;-)

Thanks for the info James! Yes, I copied you completely from your inter nations event right down to the text! :-) So disappointed I could not go to your event!

As James notes below, you need to bring your own ski equipment!

This sounds great - shame I can't make it that day. I'd definitely be up for future (cross country) skiing trips though! Longer trips would be cool as well. One thing worth mentioning is that you may need to buy/borrow skis - it's not so common to be able to hire them. A basic ski package from G-Sport or XXL isn't too expensive and lots of people have old skis at home they can lend you if you just want to try it out (as long as you have roughly the same shoe size as them).
