Experience snowshoeing and tobogganing at Fort Whyte Alive!

Join us for our second snowshoe adventure of the year and have loads of fun outdoors! We will enjoy Fort Whyte Alive in the winter and the wonders it beholds

Bring in the new year at Fort Whyte Alive as we snowshoe, toboggan, admire the resident deer, squirrels and winter birds, marvel at the burrowing owls and other indoor exhibits, and enjoy a warm drink or treat back inside.

Sandy is a volunteer at Fort Whyte and although this is not going to be a fully interpreted snowshoe hike, she will be guiding the group on a hike (to be decided according to the weather, the group, and the trail conditions).  She would love to answer any questions you have on the centre, the wildlife, or the exhibits.  Before we get our snowshoes on we will be stopping by the indoor exhibit, Prairie Partners, where there are burrowing owls and prairie dogs.  After we snowshoe, we can have a play on the biggest toboggan slide in Winnipeg.

At the end of the hike, we have the option of purchasing soup, coffee, hot chocolate, or a snack at the Buffalo Stone Cafe.  As we warm up we will chat about our fun day and a great start to the new year!

The Plan:

12:30pm - meet at Tim Horton's, do introductions, give out lanyards, get coffee, and finalize carpools

1:00pm - carpool to Fort Whyte Alive

1:15pm - arrive at Fort Whyte Alive, get our snowshoes on and start our day

2:30pm - tobogganing fun begins

3:00pm - time to warm up in the cafe and enjoy a treat

4:00pm - carpool back to Tim's

4:15pm - arrive back at Tim Horton's

Please Bring:

What a great day - we had a great time snowshoeing, climbing hills and had a lovely visit in the sod house. Really enjoyed listening to her accounts of her Great Grandfather who moved here back in the late 1800's. Only one fall - no names mentioned (all the others were on purpose, almost all the ones in the pics are practising getting up) Loved my tobogganing with Guinea! Thanks ladies! :)

I had a blast! The snowshoeing wasn't as hard as I thought but if I can't walk tomorrow I will change that comment...lol. Always fun meeting the ladies and doing activities.

Definitely Pauline I will reply to this post - a reminder to anyone that can no longer go to a meetup do not change your RSVP to no - comment on the site and the member taking your spot can pay you by PayPal instead of experience mb - then I switch you. cheers x

I have never done snowshoeing but would like to go. Is this something I would pick up easily? Ladies any advice or words of wisdom to help me decide on attending this event?

    December 19, 2013

    • Katy F.

Pauline, I'm an avid snowshoer and it is super easy to pick up! I always tell people, if you can walk, you can snowshoe :) It will take you a bit to get into the rhythm, and your hips might be a tad sore the next day because the gait is different, but we're an awesome group of gals to learn new skills with!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
