The Shooting Range Part 2 of 3 - Rifles!

Here is the follow-up to our successful first trip to experience pistol shooting! Part 2 of 3 will take us back to the same shooting range to try our skill at shooting rifles!

Oak Tree Gun Club has all the equipment you need, so you can rent your rifles there and buy the ammo as you go. Their staff is very knowledgeable, and can help to answer your questions and guide you to picking the rifle that is right for you to try. If you end up not liking it you can always swap it out for something different at no extra charge. On top of that there will be Range Officers outside to help you get started.

Based on our experience at the first Meetup, we ended up sharing the guns between us so that we could all try the different types of guns. This worked out great and gave everyone the excellent opportunity to get a feel for what type of gun they liked best. We will be using the same outdoor shooting bays that we used for the pistol experience, but we will have to 'take over' a section since we can't have rifles and pistols in the same bay.

There are about 8-10 rifles to pick from which brings up a couple very good points:

1) If some are checked out by other people before we get there, we will have to wait for those to be returned. This should not be too much of a problem as Oak Tree said many rifle users bring their own guns and most of the people are there to shoot pistols anyhow.

2) If we have another big turnout we will need to split the group into shifts to make sure everyone has a change to try the rifles without a long wait. I am setting the start times at 12:00 and 2:00 on Saturday, so please indicate on your RSVP which time slot you prefer.  Based on the number of people attending I think we are going to be perfect to have one group at 12:00.  If there is anyone that can only make 2:00 let me know and I will be sure to be there for you as well.

Just like before, to make it interesting, we will have a little contest using the paper targets and the winner will get the cost of their range fees refunded (in this case it is $20)! Here are the prices, you don't need to pay in advance for this Meetup.

Range Fees: $20 per person.

Gun Rental: $25 (Includes one box of ammo). Unlimited use and you can change guns as much as you want at no extra charge.

Ammo: You get one free box with the gun rental. Outside of that it depends on how much you intend to shoot and the type of gun that you use.

You can always bring your own gun and ammo at no charge, but since this event is for people who haven't tried this before I am guessing not many of you will have your own gun!! (Maybe you know a friend who has one you can borrow though?)

They have a restaurant at the range which was pretty good, so feel free to get something to eat afterwards. I will definitely be eating after the last group has finished! (restaurant closes at 4pm) I'll post more information as we get closer, but let me know if you have any questions!

@Debbie: Haha, well that is what the event is for, to teach you how to shoot a gun! They have range officials there that show you how to use it, so you are covered.

The number of bullets varies depending on the gun apparently (they don't use boxes or anything, it is just a bag of ammo). You probably get more for the guns with the less expensive ammo. If you use one of their guns then you have to use their ammo so they can better control what goes into the guns.

So that's a minimum of $45, which includes 20 rounds of rifle ammo? What calibers are available, in case we want to purchase ammo and use it on their weapons?
