Let's walk the dogs - from Barton

Some of you will know parts of this walk - it goes from the Cottage of Content over farmland and woodland to a tiny village with some extraordinary sculptures and then on farm tracks and across fields back to Barton.

This route misses out the horrendous mud slides (I'm still not entirely trusting the weather!) and is just over 6 miles long. No hills.

Expect livestock in 2 small fields (sheep in one and 4-5 cows in another). No awkward stiles for dogs and just a tiny bit of road walking through the village.

Refreshments at the Cottage of Content after the walk (please don't park in the pub carpark if you don't intend to have a glass of lemonade at least!) - everyone enjoyed the food last time.

Start time is provisionally 1000 - if the weather's scorching hot we may want to rethink to a 1600 start

Matty has had a little op on his leg and still has some stitches - so he needs to rest for a few days. We'll be back soon...

If the weather is still hot, we'll shorten this a bit to avoid boiling the dogs. There is the possibility of swimming when we get back to Barton afterwards.

    • Lezli

We will be doing a shorter version - but best not to boil him on the first walk!

HI! i am new to the group and i am thinking, if work rota permits, of joining you on this walk, but my two dogs are quiet excitable around other dogs... would it be wise for me to consider bringing them? if not, how do you suggest i can socialise them with other dogs in hope of joining you one day?

    June 13, 2014

Hi Brad - just bring them, they'll be fine! Most of the dogs start off with a lot of excitement on the first walk and settle down after the first 10 mins or so. The group is very supportive and so no need to worry.
