Explore Raleigh by Bike (Bicycle Group)

  • Needs a date

  • Needs a location

  • RSVP this event if it interests you!

There has been discussion about doing some bike riding around Raleigh at a few of our last events so I've put some serious thought into this and plan to do some bike related events in the near future. (Soon as I get a bike.)

This can be a great opportunity for you if you've been thinking about doing something new, as I mentioned I don't have a bike and haven't ridden in years so I'm getting back into it. And if you're an experienced rider you can still experience the beautiful greenway system Raleigh has. And as we get more organized and more experienced members I'm sure we'll take on a couple of the more challenging off road trails that are in the Raleigh area as well.

Raleigh has a great greenway system with over 77 miles of greenway trails. There are also numerous lakes and off road trails that accommodate bikes.

I think we'll be getting a lot of good exercise and having a lot of fun! I'm looking forward to this. :)

Just RSVP this event if you're interested in doing some biking around Raleigh.

We'll fine tune the when & where later.

    ***NEWS ALERT***

I now have a bike! So we'll have some riding events on the calendar soon! Below you'll find a picture of the bike I have. Nothing special, probably the least expensive road bike you can find. :)

Well, I decided I didn't like the bike pictured above and took it back. Haha. So I just got another bike off Craigslist. It's pictured below, so once again. Be on the lookout for some up and coming biking events!

So, is this event going to happen?

    July 22, 2013

    • Jon R.

This is more of a sub-group within Explore Raleigh than an actual event. In a few weeks I'll add some bike events. The 50+ people who have RSVP'd this event have identified themselves as being interested in some bike riding events. We also have a Trivia Group (58 people) and a Sushi Group (163 people). I use these groups to better organize events and allow people to see who else has similar interests.

We usually head out from my house sunday around 1030/11, arrive at RT at noon. 8-12 miles down and 7-12 miles back depending on route. Think RT is only 6 miles from art museum via meredith/state/pullen park. Glad to help schedule routes.

a great place to meet/start is the art museum - plenty of free parking and meredith connects into House and Crabtree Trail systems which cover most of Raleigh

we do a 20+/- sunday ride for brunch to raleightimes, it's a restaurant, but they have really good bloody mary's. other stops have included players retreat (1/2 price apps), saucer and other dog friendly and outdoor venues. fully understand Jon's concerns - some screwy laws in this country.

Hey Polly, I have no problem with people drinking and riding their bike. It's totally up to the rider, but not if they're going to be riding with the Explore Raleigh group I'm not willing to assume the responsibility of leading a group of bikers to a bar to have a drink mid route or even at the end of the route. If you'll notice we do very few bar events anyway. I would however be up for ending our bike rides at a smoothie shop or a place that has cookies. Mmmmm!!!

Hey Jon, I understand. But I used to have a pit-stop at a little place in Indiana in the middle of my bike ride (years ago). It was my stop for a martini. And a fresh water bottle! Loved it.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
