Calling all knights, queens, dragons, witches and unicorns! Let's Go Into the Heights! This is the day of the annual Fort Tryon Park Medieval Festival which runs from 11:30am to 6:00pm so plenty of time to enjoy optional activities after our approximately 1.5 hour walk to socialize, enjoy the music, food, crafts, theatre, and all around fun and insanity. Pay a visit to the Cloister's Museum if you have never been! It is the medieval art branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art housed in an assemblage of 13th century French cathedrals.
On route to our destination, we’ll enjoy strolling the streets of Washington Heights, one of Manhattan's most affordable and pleasant neighborhoods that has some interesting and varied immigrant history and distinctive apartment houses. We'll visit the site of Fort Washington and other historic locations. At the bottom of this paragraph is a link to info about the Medieval Festival. We will start our walk at the site of Hilltop Stadium where the New York Yankees began playing baseball as the NY Highlanders and end in beautiful Fort Tryon Park, one of New York City's treasures with scenic vistas of the Hudson River and the lovely heather gardens. Note that this walk involves some uphill walking. Come in costume if you dare!
