Let's Explore Striver's Row and Surrounding Areas in Harlem

Harlem Walking Tour & Charlie Parker Jazz Festival

(repeating Friday, August 23rd).  Harlem's historic districts contain some of the City's most beautiful residential architecture and stunning churches.  On this extraordinary walk we’ll start out in the Hamilton Heights, traverse Strivers Row/Nicholas Historic District and Astor Row, where you think you have been suddenly transported to the American South!   We’ll stop briefly at Hamilton Grange (Alexander’s Hamilton’s home, built in 1800) and the Schomberg Center Library for a peek at the current art exhibits.  The tour will cover Harlem’s rich history, past, present and future and Harlem’s impact not just on NYC but the world. We'll talk about the evolution of jazz and how be-bebop started in Harlem.  You will come away with lots of great ideas of where to return for eating out and live music. At the end of the walk, we'll end up at 122nd Street near 5th Avenue at the new Richard Rodgers Ampthitheater in Marcus Garvey Park where you will have the option of staying for The Charlie Parker Jazz Festival which starts at 3:00pm. This is an easy approximately 2.5 mile walk, almost entirely downhill and on level ground (except for the very beginning, a little uphill).

Here's link about the jazz festival which runs from Friday, the 23rd to Sunday, the 25th.

OK, Sat the 24th is good. My biggest challenge will be remembering the names of all the unfamiliar north-south avenues in Harlem.
