For First-Timers Only! The Amazing Lower Manhattan Historic Tour

This Veterans Day Holiday meetup is specially presented to group members who have yet to attend a meetup or are new to New York City (arriving 2013) and have not attended a prior Lower Manhattan meetup with us.  This 4-hour experience will cover Manhattan's history from the Dutch colonial period in the 1620's through the 1870's.  We'll cover the American Revolutionary period when New York was America's first Capitol, the origins of the stock market, the majestic buildings of the Civic Center area, newspaper row, Five Points and the Gangs of New York, Chinatown and Little Italy, giving us an opportunity to talk about the city's rich immigrant history.  The walk ends in SOHO where we'll delight in its cast iron palaces and learn how the area has changed from residential, to industrial-commercial, to a mecca for artist's and now a shopping emporium.

Please note that all of the museums and historic sites along our tour route are free! The National Museum of the American Indian located at the start of our tour is free and a nice option if you have time before 1:00pm. It is also a branch of the Smithsonian. Food vendors will be all around the area for the Veterans Day Festival.
