THIS TOUR IS FOR MEMBERS WHO HAVE YET TO TAKE A HARLEM TOUR WITH OUR GROUP! Harlem is perhaps New York’s most famous neighborhood and has a very rich history and has also had a great impact on the world! On this walking tour we’ll experience Harlem old and new, from the shopping and hustle and bustle of 125th Street, to the birthplace of be-bop jazz. We will visit the famous Apollo Theatre (annual open house)and learn about some of the legendary performers whose careers started there. We will see magnificent and varied architecture, beautiful 19th century townhouses, important historic sites, noted houses of worship and the famed Apollo Theatre. Tour focuses on the South and Central Harlem area, and will also cover four centuries of Harlem History as a center of commerce, culture and activism. We'll experience the Harlem Renaissance of today with the new “restaurant and condo row” on Frederick Douglass Boulevard. If time permits we will check the new exhibit on Motown Music at the Schomberg Library .. very cool!
