Celebrate July 4th with a Historic Walk!

NOTE THIS TOUR IS FOR MEMBERS WHO HAVE NOT YET BEEN ON ONE OF OUR LOWER MANHATTAN OR FINANCIAL DISTRICT WALKS!

Celebrate the 4th of July and NYC's role as America's first Capital with a historic walk through the streets of Lower Manhattan!  This is the perfect day to follow in the footsteps of some of America's founding fathers, including Alexander Hamilton, the extraordinary immigrant and visionary from the West Indies who became one of the leaders of the American Revolution and our nation's first Secretary of the Treasury.  We'll stop at locations where some of the seeds of the American Revolution where sown, as well as the exact spot where George Washington was sworn in as the first U.S. President.  We will also enjoy the amazing architecture and rich and tumultuous history of the area.  We'll start from the time when Lower Manhattan was known as the Dutch trading post called Nieuw Amsterdam in the 1600's and travel into the present day where Wall Street and the financial district is evolving into a residential neighborhood.

Walk will be approximately 1.5 miles and end around 12:30pm.  Optional lunch/brunch/drink afterwards at Fraunces Tavern and Museum.

Sorry-I'd love to go but the walk starts in 30 minutes and I already made plans - I'm glad I made it off the wait list but please give my spot to someone else - have fun!!!

Looks like rain very likely Friday morning. Didn't we have enough on Thursday! In any case I am not cancelling because there is a great indoor option: Federal Hall, our meetup location and America's first Capitol - is having free events all day from 10am - 3pm including live 18th century music, an opportunity to meet George Washington, talks and more. If raining we can meet at the top of the stairs of Federal Hall which is protected. I will have a sign that says MEETUP JULY 4th TOUR to benefit our first timers.

Hank, Great job of keeping everyone informed on the walk status re: raindate, alternate plans, waitlist. Thanks. I am on the waitlist but will go to FH anyway to catch their indoor events and if you have a lot of no-shows, I'd like to join you.

    Hi Hank -
I would love to know if this walk will also take place on another day. If I stay in the city, I would put my name on wait list but I'm not certain about going away for the weekend yet.
