Exploring the Illusion of Free Will - Sony Plaza at 550 Madison (btwn. 55 & 56)

Hi everyone,

We'll continue exploring what makes free will impossible, and how understanding the causal and unconscious nature of our human will can benefit us personally and societally.

The Sony Plaza is a large public atrium with plenty of seating, and restrooms. There are Starbucks and Illy coffee concessions, or you can bring your own food and drink.

We'll also be joined by members of the Conversations New York Meetup. Visit their event listing for the rsvp's.

I hope you can join us.

Really enjoyed the meetup . . . great discussion due to great facilitation. . . I gained valuable insight about the relationship between determinism and transcending one's past conditioning. Previously, I assumed that transcendence was impossible without free-will, or that transcendence was contingent upon the exercise of free-will. However, insofar as the experience (or the effect) of transcendence is produced by a series of antecedent causes, it can be fully accounted for by the mechanistic dynamics of determinism. Ultimately, I'm still agnostic regarding the free-will versus determinism debate, but this particular group resulted in a more informed and meaningful perspective on the issue. Thanks for allowing me to participate in this philosophical community of beautiful minds. . . :-)
