Join us for a day of Waterfalls

Panther Falls, Staton Falls and White Rock Falls, we'll spend about 1 1/2 hours at each spot which should give us plenty of time to "work the scene".  When we finish we should be tired and HUNGRY, which makes the Pick Cadillac Diner on the way back to Roanoke a perfect place to satisfy our stomachs and talk about our great photos.

Meet at Panther Falls at 10:30am or at the Daleville Park and Ride at 9am to arrange carpooling.  We'll pass out directions to all sites both places.

It was a great day - good company - and good exercise! Thanks to Tom for arranging and guiding us and thanks to Sandra for taking care of us and leading the hikes.

A special, THANK YOU, to Sandra for leading the hikes, excellent car pool duties, and flexibility in adding a fourth waterfall, Crabtree Falls, so those who had never been there could experience that location. And an additional THANK YOU, to Mom for all of the supplies provided, I think we could have met any medical emergency with the equiopment Sandra brought along.

Great group of troopers. We photographed short and tall waterfalls from the top, bottom, and side; hiked further than some really wanted to hike, but had a wonderful time. Some of us added on Crabtree Falls and dinner at Tom's Pink Cadillac Diner--the crowning touch. Thank you, thank you, thank you very much. Elvis had NOT left the building. Check Tom's photo.

It was a beautiful day to be out and about with ER. Thanks, Tom, for your guidance with the settings. Great locations! I think we went uphill both ways on that last one, didn't we?

Letting my spot go to someone who wants to go as I have too much going on at work this week, so will be unable to close the business for the Day.

Because of a Redneck commitment on Friday evening, I will probably leave after 2nd falls shoot. would be glad to have someone ride along.

Curious about hiking in/out for any or all of these spots. I am recovering from shoulder surgery and not yet feeling nearly as sure-footed as I normally would. Also, does anyone have coordinates for GPS for Staton Falls and White Rock Falls?

    July 25, 2013

    • Tom C.

A walking stick in your good arm probably would help stability.

      1 · July 26, 2013

Got these GPS coordinates from Google Earth, no guarantee on accuracy. Panther[masked] -[masked] Staton[masked] -[masked] White Rock[masked] -[masked]

    Anybody interested in carpooling?

    1 · July 7, 2013

    • Laura W.

Would definitely love a ride - will be happy to share gas cost :)

      July 24, 2013

    • Carmen S.

I would love to carpool as well, and am happy to be the driver if needed.

I have a stupid question, is this ALL day? When I originally read the description that included eating at the Pink Cadillac I thought at lunch time. But re-reading it I saw the 1 1/2 hour at EACH Waterfall. If it is all day I will only be able to come for part of it, the morning half. Sorry for not reading it fully.

    July 24, 2013

    • Tom C.

Yep, all day. We'll be glad to have you with us for as long as you can stay. Can also give you directions to the second stop, Staton Falls not far away, and you can leave Panther Falls a little early so you can get in two waterfalls before you have to leave.

      July 25, 2013

    • Adele H.

In that case if there is a waiting list add someone. I will go the first waterfall then leave to take care of other things I have scheduled.

      July 25, 2013

  • Lauri B.

I would love to join in on this - Love waterfalls! But I will be out of town that week.

    July 25, 2013

  • Becki W.

Would it be possible to have the directions and schedule emailed? Since we live down in the Lexington area, it wouldn't make sense to drive to Roanoke first. Thanks!

    July 24, 2013

    • Tom C.

Directions below to Panther Falls, meet us there at 10:30 AM to get remaining directions.

I really would like to go, but I have a paying gig that morning so I am opening up my spot. Have a great time!

Can't wait to see what I can coax out of the pinhole this time.
I'll also bring my little Leica point and shoot.

Change of plans-I am now going to the Great Smokey Mountain trip with Jon Beard and crew...my spot is open!

    July 11, 2013

  • Tom C.

We've set a limit of 20 for this meetup due to the close confines of two of the falls. If we reach the limit leave your name on the wait list.
Sandra is willing to form a second group to visit the same falls on another day.

From Amherst, take Hwy 60 to just before the Parkway. Then there is a gravel road that takes you toward the falls. I live in Lynchburg too.

Off of 29 south? Nice to meet you Richard!

Forgot to say he excited I am that there is a meet-up my way!!!

    July 2, 2013

  • Tom C.

As usual, the meetup map leaves a bit to be desired. If you're driving to Panther Falls, I81 north, exit 188 (60 east through Buena Vista), immediately after going under the Blue Ridge Parkway turn right onto Panther Falls Rd. (forest service road 315). Info sign to Panther Falls on the left after 2 miles or so.

All are great spots but those attending should be aware that Staton Falls is dangerous. More than one has died there, the most recent less than two years ago. Be Careful
