Let's support the Roanoke Rescue Mission by taking photos at the Annual Thanksgiving Morning Drumstick Dash. This is a major benefit activity of the Roanoke Rescue Mission and is a major photo opportunity for Exposure Roanoke to perform a public service for the Mission.  Please select one of the 13 locations below.

Here is a copy of our official invitation:

"The Rescue Mission is seeking volunteers to take photographs during the 7th Annual Drumstick Dash 5K Race & Family Walk from 8:30-10:30am. This event is on Thanksgiving morning and is through the downtown streets and also crosses over to the Hotel Roanoke and ends back on the City Market where the finish line and Awards Ceremony will be.

There will be over 15,000 participants - runners, walkers, babies in strollers, dogs, family groups, church groups, volunteers holding signs & banners, and street side musicians - dressed in running gear and costumed up as well! We are interested in photographs of all the above.

...To see examples of previous years, see our website at

www.drumstickdash.net

Here are the locations that we are most interested in having photographs:

1.  Starting line on Franklin Road by SunTrust Plaza
2.  3rd Street at 1st Baptist Church
3.  Church Ave at 1st Street
4.  Church Ave by Oakey's Funeral Home (Orvis Dog Water Station)
5.  5th Street by the Kirk YMCA (StellarOne water station)
6.  Norfolk Ave between 5th and 3rd Streets
7.  On the Gainesboro bridge
8.  Shenandoah Avenue by Hotel Roanoke
9.  On Salem Ave by the Taubman Museum
10.  Norfolk Avenue between Jefferson & 1st Street
11.  Finish line on Campbell Avenue (Center in the Square garage)
12.  Roanoke City Market where people are milling around after race.
13.  Race winners at Awards Ceremony on the Roanoke City Market

After the race, please turn in a disc to the Rescue Mission Main Lobby Reception with your 50 best pictures. Be sure to put your name on the disc so we know which ones are yours! Thank you for participating."

...and here is a link to the guidelines they have prepared just for us:

http://www.exposureroanoke.org/messages/boards/thread/28632072

...please reply to this Meetup by commenting below to indicate which location you would like to go to for photos of the Drumstick Dash.  Here is a link to a map of the race course:

It is just that simple: once you have taken the photos just select your favorite 50 photos then put them on disc and bring them to the escue Mission Lobby (NO Model Realeases are required).  Thanks for supporting this important public service.

    Dear Exposure Roanoke Volunteers,

Thank you so much for the part you played in helping to make the 7th Annual Drumstick Dash the smoothest event yet. We are so grateful that you gave your time and photography talents on Thanksgiving Day to help us put and capture a wonderful family event for our community and to raise funds to help the Rescue Mission feed, clothe, shelter, and provide medical care to homeless men, women, and children.
God bless you! With much appreciation, Leslie Littlefield, Rescue Mission Volunteer Coordinator

    • Mike Kline

Probably not us as we were walking not running.

      November 26

    • Joel Thomas

hey, I like that idea, cheering for me! LOL I was just wondering, as, I wanted to know who it was, so I could acknowledge that I had "met" them...Mike, I was looking for you ;o (really)

I will be in SW Roanoke county after 1 pm. Is the new library open on Sunday afternoon. If not I guess we can do this in the parking lot. I live in Vinton if that side of town is more convenient. I will meet wherever is convenient for you. David

    November 24

    • Art Sellers

I live in Vinton so maybe we can meet at Franks's Pizza on Washington at 1:00...

      November 24

    • David Black

Will 1:15 work? Have to drive from Starkey Rd area.

      November 24

  • David Black

It will be hard to get there at 1, but 1:15 I can make. Is that ok.

    November 24

    • Art Sellers

Yes David - 1:15 or 1:30 is Great - Thanks Art.

I am new at this. Pictures came out fine, but, cant get CD to copy to DVD to take there. When try to copy CVS and Walmart machines say disc is empty. Have loaded on computer so know are on disc. But I am stuck. Can I meet someone Sunday afternoon to help me figure this out an get my images to the RM.

    November 24

    • Art Sellers

Yes David, I can bring my laptop and we can make a disk for the Rescue Mission. Where would you like to meet?

      November 24

  • Jake Aaron

Fun event. I didn't see many other members as I was down by the Transportation Museum most of the morning. Dropped off my photos tonight. Thanks to all who came out to help!

    November 23

    • Art Sellers

Yes Jake - it was really fun and very rewarding. I am not surprised that we did not see much of each other because we were mostly very busy with covering our own areas to catch the runners and walkers and other volunteers.

      November 23

  • Mike McNeil

That was super fun! Sifting through images this evening!

    November 23

    • Art Sellers

I know how hard it is for you to "sift through the images" cause it is hard to select from all those great images...

      November 23

This was a grand opportunity to be involved while also using and sharing our talents

I'll pick up one. Gainsboro, or Church St. If Church, can move over after the bulk go by... Art - I'll go with your direction day of, if necessary. It will be nice to shoot something that isn't going 120+ mph... :)

    November 12

    • Art Sellers

Yes Steve - #3 or #4 (Church St) will be fine and then look for opportunity move to #13 (Awards) after they zoom by (even though they are not autos you can still use a fast shutter speed but you probably will not have to pan).

      November 12

    • Art Sellers

OK Steve, please plan on #3 (Church Ave).

      November 18

  • Cathy Martin

Does anyone have a pdf of the exposure roanoke logo. I would love to put it on my shirt for the run.

    November 15

    • Cathy Martin

Art. I will look for you. I think it would be cool to take pictures from the runners' point of view. It's a timed run but as long as I cross that line, a few extra minutes won't hurt. See you Thursday Could you wear a Santa hat or something so I can find you in the 15,000 people...lol

      2 · November 16

    • Art Sellers

Yes Cathy - a Santa Hat and a Point and a Point and Shoot at the Start Line just before race time.

      1 · November 17

  • Paula Greenway

I am walking as well Art, will get some shots of musicians and sponsors !

    November 17

  • Art Sellers

David Black has RSVPd that he will take photos at no. 1 (Start Line) and no. 11 (Finish Line). I think that will work because they are only a couple of blacks apart and it will take a while for the runners (and walkers) to go from Start to Finish.

    November 11

    • Tai Tran

A 5K run is 5 kilometers long, which is the equivalent of 3.1 miles

      November 17

    • Cathy Martin

Last years winner crossed the line at 15:31 with more than 50 people finishing in under 19 minutes. You can see all results from last years run on drumsticks website.

      November 17

  • Art Sellers

I received an update from the Rescue Mission that "No Model Releases are required" so we can take any and all photos.

Additionally Leslie has requested that they would like "Shots of the musicians with their name placquard showing as well as the road marshals that will be holding corporate signage. We would like these photos to send to the musicians and sponsors as thank yous". So please try to capture these photos and include them as extras to the 50 or so that you put on disk for the Roanoke Rescue Mission.

Thank you for your plans to participate as Official Photographers for this fun event.

I will definitely be there...running. This is great!!!

    November 15

    • Art Sellers

Oh yes "This is great" and it is so nice of you to carry your camera! You are taking pictures as you run aren't you?

      1 · November 15

If I had a point and shoot I'd give it a try. Plus, my panting will fog up the lens!!!!

      November 15

  • Mary

Do you need help at any of the spots still?

    November 12

    • Art Sellers

Yes - Mary number 4 (Church Ave) sounds good to me... No - we are not turning the photos in right after the race. Please plan to take them home and put your best 50 photos on a CD or a DVD and drop them off in the next day or two to the Rescue Mission.

      November 12

    • Mary

ok. I will be there. Thanks!

      November 12

Here is a summary of the landmarks claimed so far for taking photos: #1 (David) #3 (Art) #5 (Tai) #8 (Steve) #11 (David). So, we still need several more members to cover the middle photo opportunities.

    November 11

  • Steve Combs

I could take EITHER no. 5 5th ave @ the Kirk YMCA or no. 8 Shenandoah by the Hotel Roanoke. Either would do for me, or others, just let me know which needs coverage.

    November 10

    • Steve Combs

      Good 'nuff!

      November 10

    • Art Sellers

OK Steve - please RSVP and plan on your alternative number 8 (Shenandoah) - Thanks!

      November 11

  • Tai Tran

I can help at the Kirk YMCA if needed

    November 10

    • Art Sellers

That is great Tai - please RSVP and plan on number 5(Kirk) - Thanks.

      November 11
