Vancouver Sun Run! (10 km)

  • Burrard and Georgia Intersection

  • Hey all!

Every year in Vancouver there's an annual 10 km run that's one of the most popular timed runs worldwide, and this year it falls on April 21st.

Right now I'm seeing how much interest there would be for the event. Cost to participate is roughly $50 and comes with a Sun Run shirt.

When you register for the run, you can register for your running time bracket.

**Please only RSVP yes if you are actually considering registering for the Sun Run. There is no need to RSVP if you don't plan on coming.**

If people are interested in participating in the Sun Run, we can look at organizing some practice 10 km timed runs in the near future, perhaps on a weekly basis.

Since I'm first wanting to know how much interest there is for this, this meetup event will be subject to change. For any questions or comments, feel free to post on the discussion below.

I'm registered with my school, but I'd love to train with just about anyone!

As of lately, I've been having quite a bit of left knee problems while running, so I don't think it's a good idea that I partake in the Sun Run anymore. I'll be refraining from running much for a while most likely.

But for those still interested and have not signed up for the run yet, we could look about meeting and get those interested signed up. Let me know what works for you.

Wednesday & Thursday anytime after 4:30pm, Friday 4:30pm to 6pm, Sat all day would work for me.

My legs are aching, probably from the transition from running on the treadmill to running on pavement and slopes etc. Hopefully this is just muscle aches from using different leg muscles on different terrain (which my legs would get accustomed to). Anyone else going through the same thing?

So, with things getting closer to the Sun Run, it's probably time that I host a public 10 km run soon for getting ready.

Does Saturday 23 work well for some of you?

Starting with 5-8km would be less intimidating for me. The day works fine :)

Ok, I'll host an event for this Saturday, for ~7 km. It might change depending on weather.

It seems like there's quite a bit of interest for this already which is good!

Regarding training for it, I've been comfortable with 10 km for quite some time, but I definitely can organize and lead some training sessions. On the run I'll be aiming for around 42-45 minutes or so.

It might be a good idea for those interested in the training sessions to post your approximate time (or what you're aiming for) so that I can group people based on this.

Lastly, regarding the time of the training sessions, maybe it is best to have them on Saturdays? I usually go running myself a couple times a week in the weeknights as well, but I'm not sure how well timed this will be with people's schedules.

If there is enough interest, you can create a team login and the price is cheaper. I walked 2 years ago at the slugs pace everyone else was going at. Enjoyable.

Yes the idea of a group login would be good. Do you know how many people this would require?

I'd like to train with other person or as a group(good motivation) and run as a team.

Andrew are you training for it? I will train with you..

I did the sun run last year and I had a great time, even though I finished in the 19,000's of 20 something thousand male runners : P . It wasn't my fault I swear! The people I was with were more interested in doing a sun walk! And honestly if i was going to do it again I would probably approach it the same way. Just casually having a good time, and going at the same speed as the slowest in my group.

So yah I'm not really interested in changing for 10 km runs. But I might be interested in doing the sun run with the group if there are others who would like to take a more relaxed and leisurely approach.
