I only had to use my stick once: to put it down so I could pee. Beautiful hike, beautiful people. I only wish we all had more energy and a longer hike to get to know each other a bit more. To future adventures :)

Hi, is there anyone who could give me a ride from UBC where I live to the meeting up location? I could ride my bike there but I can't bring the bike hiking with us, so it might get complicated.

No! We have to try it first, then if it sucks, then we can go to a party nearby, and schedule another date for it!

So it seems we are all properly freaked out about it! Which might be stopping others from joining which is making the group not so large yet? If we had 10 strong guys it would help!

Guys we all now that this is really a dangerous hike...we are actually risking our lives, I may say. But I think that a big group has power to overcome obstacles, including humans with bad intentions. We must be tough though, and listen to everything. every little noise, and particuarly the sound of steps. It's not a hike just for fun or pleasure, it's more like "Can you survive the night?" If everybody makes it, then I can say we will all have a little of experience in such a wild environment.

    1 · April 3, 2013

Bigfoot may throw the odd rock and smell really bad, but they are not known to attack humans. :)

Since this is going to be my first meetup I just want to make sure I know where I'm "meeting up". Based on the communication thread I see some suggestions were being tossed back and forth, but just wanted to confirm the finalized location so that i don't find myself wandering about aimlessly tomorrow night looking for the group.

PS - also super looking forward to it - sounds like fun & as far as weather is concerned - rain is the reason jackets & gumboots were invented!

Sounds intriguing, but kinda scary. Yes, not entirely safe. I might join you if the group gets bigger, especially since people tend to drop out.

    March 23, 2013

    • Elizabeth

Yes, there's been murders and attacks in there over the last few years, and cyclists have even been attacked on the main roads through the forest. But I agree that if the group gets bigger and men remain in the group, it might be better. If too small and no men, I might drop out.

Also, a good place to meet is this one: as soon as you get off the bus at 16th and Blanka, you walk in the direction of UBC, until you reach an open area to your right(North), where there are some washrooms and the like. The two times I've been to the park ,I met people in that place, which is very central and easy to find. I don't think there will be people coming from UBC right? But another good place would be the bus stop(at 16th and Blanka), so that people don't have to walk by themselves alone while waiting for the others to arrive. A third option(!) would be king edward skytrain station, so that everybody take the 25 together. Sooo, which one do you guys prefer???

      1 · April 4, 2013

Only 2 people died in the last 10 years in the park. more people die from drinking and driving in vancouver. You're more likely to win at lottery than encountering something bad there.

Is everybody ok if we change the date to Friday April 05? I think saturday nights should be devoted to partying, not hiking. What do you guys think?

    April 2, 2013

    • Kevin

Just a reminder not to do anything illegal or anything that may be detrimental to the group. Or let's say we get a fine. Who is going to pay?

      1 · April 3, 2013

    • Elizabeth

I used to live in a dorm close to Tower Beach (part of Wreck Beach) and just up from Spanish Banks, and sometimes we went to those beaches for beach parties. We'd hike down to Tower Beach (down many steep steps) in the evening as a group sometimes and we did build beach fires but made sure we put them out completely afterwards. It was really fun. We'd also have barbeques on Spanish Banks in the day (an idea for a future meetup!). But yeh, as part of a meetup group maybe we shouldn't do anything illegal. However, it is true that informally many people do it. It's cold down there without a fire! We'd sing songs and roast marshmellows etc. Other than that we could check out dancing at the Pit Pub if people would like.
