Dinner, Trading & Gaming (console & board) at EXP Restaurant & Bar - June 2013

I summon you gamers to join me for a fantastic night of dining, drinking and gaming! What better way to indulge in such as with like-minded friends? Fyi - I trained myself as a video game designer in college so this event's theme hits home. So, come on and power up with a Triforce Burger or replenish your mana with a Psionic Storm drink! While you're at it, why not play some games before, during (no liquor at console) and after dining?! If you're a gamer, you must come here! Please be aware of the following details:

Start: Press start at 6:30pm. We will engage our mission at 6:35pm, no later.

How to find the princess: Ask for the A.Scott party. We will be inside the restaurant, or somewhere playing...who can say? Just ask for the party, the gatekeeper won't be far.

(About the Console Games) What is our mission? Our group will be allowed the usage of one television screen to play any console game that we wish. The only catch with that is we need to unplug the first one in order to play the next one. There is an option to play more television screens, including their projection one, but if we were to do that then we would need to rent the place, which is definitely not cheap, even on a weeknight! They have pretty much every modern console system. To play is unlimited and FREE but you must NOT drink alcohol when you're at the console, and you obviously need to be either eating or drinking in the restaurant. The reason for this, and I did ask, is that it is against BC Liquor laws to have people drink and play at the the same time. As such, I cannot reserve the machines. We just have to play it by ear.

***Bring your board games and hand held systems and games! The restaurant provides a small selection of board games as well!***

But don't let that deter you! It's a Wednesday night, I don't think that it will be THAT busy. Everyone is welcome to mingle, play, drink and eat (each person pays for themselves) to their heart's content ! We're the Shy Tribe, dammit!

I've collected some rupees on my last adventure. Where can I spend them?

Members are responsible to pay for their own food and drink, so therefore the cost is relative to that of your selection.

***An automatic 18% gratuity will be added to each separate bill for parties over 10 people.***

Ye Olde Weapon Shop:

Feel free to bring and trade your old video games. This is totally an optional feature.

(About board games) Let me roll the dice, already!

Think of it as another night for board gaming in addition to console playing! In case you don't have any or forget to brings yours, the restaurant will provide a small selection (titles currently unknown).

Where do I park my Chocobo?

Parking can be tricky, especially since this is downtown. The manager did inform me that there are Chocobo paid meter parking, located on the south east corner intersection of Hamilton and Pender, near VCC. This means little to me since I am a warrior without a mount!

For dragon riding (transit), the closest sky train station is the China Town one.

Where is the map? Okay, basically the restaurant is located near Victory Square and Pappa Furs. I recommend consulting Googlemaps or calling Translink.

Learn the controls: The restaurant's website can be found here: http://www.expbar.ca/

The Orcs are among us! Basically this is how my cancellation and no-show policy works for this particular event, so heed it well, young warrior:

Since I have to close RSVP's on June 24, 2013 to phone and let the manager know how many people are coming, you must cancel no later than June 23, 2013. If you cancel after that date you will gain a star, and I'm NOT talking in the Super Mario sense here! You don't want that.

Secondly, and this is very, very important, you will lose some major health points if you do not show-up, hence destroying your game cartridge from ever playing on any cool restaurant console again. In other words, you gain a star and I won't permit you to attend this type of restaurant again. It's harsh, I know, but out of fairness for everyone, especially the manager of the restaurant, I have to implement these rules.

Most importantly: HAVE FUN!

Game Over: Since this is a work-night for me, I probably won't stay too late...maybe at about 10pm. If you are a good gamer (and Samaritan) and are going in the direction of North Burnaby and Coquitlam, you can kindly drop me off at my humble abode. If that is possible, I may stay longer.

If you are going by transit in that direction, I'll stay a bit longer too and will accompany you home!

Believe me, either way you will gain enough exp points to gain the next level.

***The restaurant closes at midnight. You are welcome to leave at any time, even after I leave to play games and eat some more! See you there!

Bring on the grog!

Yes, this place serves alcohol. Please refer to the waiver below. Bring your photo ID please!!!

By no means is the host and the group in its entirety responsible for the misuse and misconduct resulting in alcoholic consumption. Akemi, i am terribly sorry but I have to cancel tonight. I have Otitis and the doctor recommend to stay home for a couple of days. This is very unfortunate since would be the first time to join the group. I hope don't get banned and you allow me to join next time.
    Cheers, Nuno

To people on waiting list: since, this event is full and according to five pages of strict rules, we won't be able to get in. Do you guys want to do something else?

A mighty tasty magic potion indeed, with magical properties to go along with it. Like looking through some magic goggles which makes everything look so much more appealing...and...it tasted like beer! Ha Ha Ha...sorry I'm cheesy.

Why the RSVP cap? Is it a small place?

What kinds of games will we play?

    May 7, 2013

    • Andrew W.

I bet handhelds don't count. The Gamer Meet Up usually just does that, but I don't know what percentage of Shy group has handhelds. You could try inviting the gamers ,and they'd bring lots, but they're difficult to share, so it might not be very effective (Pokemon reference?!)

      Why's it always A.Scott? Longstanding tradition? :p

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
