Please be aware that this is an attendance critical event! I have booked a tour that must commence with at least 8 attending people! Do not RSVP if you are not serious on coming! Thank you!
Come join me on a wonderful educational guided tour of both the UBC Botanical Garden & Centre for Plant Research, as well as the majestic Greenheart Canopy Walkway! This event will be entirely on foot and will also, to my catty displeasure, commence rain or shine. Yes, I hate being out in the rain but I will still go on this tour because it's cool! Please be aware of the following imperative details:
The first tour, the Botanical one will be approximately 90-minutes and will begin at 1pm. The Canopy Walkway tour begins at 3pm.
Start: Please arrive at 12:45pm to settle in and buy your admission. There will be a total of two tours, so expect to spend a lengthy amount of time here.
How to find us: I will be standing at the UBC Botanical Garden & Centre for Plant Research sign. Please refer to the following picture as reference. The sign is adjacent to the street, parking lot and building.
ADMISSION COST: You must state at the admissions (whether you're from the Extremely Shy group or not) that you are one of the attendees from the "Extremely Shy Tour Group". There is a possibility for a group discount, provided there are no UBC faculty or staff members, and coupons are not used. I'm just saying. Another important thing to be aware of is that everyone is responsible for the purchase of their own admission. The admission cost for both tours is $21 (tax included), and I highly recommend that you pay in cash.
UBC faculty and students can get in for FREE, but must provide valid photo ID.
***Please note, if you do have 2 for 1 coupon from the Entertainment Book, you can use it but that will only enable the complimentary person to enter the main gardens for free, not the Greenheart Canopy Walk. If you choose to use the coupon, the complimentary person will have to pay $12 to join the canopy walk.
Parking and Transit information: Free parking can be found at the garden. More information on additional parking as well as transit information can be found here: http://www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/hours-and-directions
Washrooms and Concession: The main garden has two washrooms but no restaurant. There is a gift shop that is connected to the admissions side. I suspect that they might have some minor refreshments there, but I'm not counting on it.
Guided Tour Information: The main UBC Botanical Garden guided tour will begin at 1pm. The Greenheart Canopy Walkway guided tour will begin at 3pm. Both guided tours combined will take approximately 2.5 - 3 hours in length.
What is a canopy walkway: Please read the information provided on the website: http://www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/canopy-walkway
Yes, this is a picture of a part of the Greenheart Canopy Walkway.
What should I bring: I would bring water for sure, and a snack or two since there are no restaurants close by. Also, wear comfortable walking shoes and dress appropriately since the entire event will be outside. It would be wise to bring a cell phone in case of an emergency too!
Photographs: I asked and photographs are allowed to be taken and posted on meetup. However, do NOT sell any photos as you will need the UBC Garden's approval to do this beforehand!
Maps: Maps for both the Botanical Gardens and the Greenheart Canopy Walkway will be provided at admissions.
What if I get hurt or get sick: Please read the bottom waiver and acknowledge it. Thank you.
