ESV Grouse Grind! Take One

Hey everyone!

It's been a while since I've hosted something, and with summer nearing, I thought it would be a good time to host a meetup event for the Grouse Grind!

About the Grind:

For those who are unfamiliar with the Grouse Grind, it's a 2.9 km hike up Grouse Mountain gaining about 700 m vertical in the process - so it's a rather steep climb up. Some may say it's torture, but at the end of it, there's a very rewarding and accomplishing feeling that you get!

----------------

Average Times and Fitness Level Information:

The average time is about 1:30 for completion and this will vary quite a bit depending on fitness level and if you have experience on this hike. Anyone is welcome to join on this hike up, but to save yourself some trouble, be prepared with proper exercising clothing plus hydration is very important. Furthermore, be prepared for something that is quite cardiovascular and physically demanding.

---------------

Meeting Time:

We will be meeting at 10 am on the specified date and will be starting ASAP. For this hike you may either go up solo or with others from the group - either way we will be meeting at the top and we will hang out there for a while. Afterwards, we will most likely take the gondola down - the cost of this is $10 (no cost for going up the Grind).

This event will depend on the weather so the date may be subject to change should there be significant rainfall. Stay tuned for further details. If everything goes well, this could be a repeating ESV event in the near future!

For any further questions, feel free to message me or post on the comments.

Cheers!

Was a good time and definitely rewarding like all Grouse Grinds are! Thanks and congrats to all who came out today.

I want to make things a little more organized for next time, so feedback is welcome!

I'm so sorry I slept over and just woke up. I now can't go because it's too far away by bus. Sorry about that

I hope everyone realize that the grouse grind is like 250+ sets of stairs. Running up a 50 storey high office building in downtown is like less than a quarter of the grind. Bring a big bottle of water.

      June 27, 2013

    • Andrew

@Heather: can meet you at Broadway and Granville. @Zak, Etienne: since you guys are DT, it's easiest to meet me by Granville Station. A contact number is given in the email I just sent out.

      June 28, 2013

  • Andrew

Have sent out the final details including the contact info for tomorrow - see you all there!

If you are RSVPing past this point, you won't have gotten the message, so if so please meet us near the meeting entrance of the Grouse Grind by 10 am.

I think there is a free shuttle bus that goes to grouse mountain from Canada Place. Has anyone any more info on this?

    June 27, 2013

  • Andrew

I'll be sending out the final details tomorrow in the afternoon, I'm stuck with my phone internet only tonight

    June 24, 2013

As long as it's not pouring, this week it will be happening - quite a bit of people signed up now and as of right now Saturday's looking nice

  • Heather

Can I catch a ride with somebody? I'm at Granville Street and Broadway.

  • Ed

Are we taking the gondola down or hiking back down?

    May 23, 2013

    • Andrew

I had forgot to mention that, but we'll be taking the gondola down - it'll save your knees going down!
